Original/alternative lyrics for the Red Dwarf theme tune from the composer himself:

The documentary this comes from was broadcast on U.K. satellite channel Dave yesterday, part 1 at least. If you have any interest in Red Dwarf I would urge you to watch it, very good and very interesting. Earlier casting ideas, reasons for choices and several near misses so we are actually lucky we got it at all!

Every time I see the Ace Rimmer episode I have to have Kippers the next day.

Red Dwarf is finally turning the ship around from a legal black hole:

Apparently, Grant and Naylor were infighting about the series, but the mysterious resolution of the case means they may have differnt takes going on, maybe one doing a book series and the other continuing the tv and movies. Or something like that.
There's no doubt Red Dwarf became patchier in quality after Rob Grant left in the mid nineties. But Grant apparently left because he didn't want to be known just for Red Dwarf, and Doug Naylor continued pushing the show forward, often against considerable friction, for decades. Rob Grant suddenly wants back in? I think he should smeg off!

We were watching some old Top of the Pops on BBC 4 just now, featuring Boy George singing Everything I Own.
He had very short blond hair and pale make-up.
Techy said 'He looks like, what's his name - ' and I said 'Smehhhhhhhgggg!' :chuckle:

He knew who I meant. :nods:

I'm wondering who the expected audience is for this. Also, what would we call the genre: comedy/scifi/soft porn?
The cover image gives a hint.
Reading left to right, it goes Blonde Sexily Pouting Woman, Brunette Sexily Pouting Woman... Rimmer. Smirking.
Should have been reversed.

Are you implying it's for blokes? Most text "erotica" seems to be written by women for women, as far as I can tell.

This is ridiculously niche, I guess it's just fanfic.

Fanfic occurred to me right away. The blurb is crudely written. It's not Red Dwarf standard.
I know this because I bought my kids the Red Dwarf books back in the day and of course read them myself.

As for the gender of the writer: can't be inferred. The cover features Sexily Pouting Women, one of whom is presumably the Pink Dwarf exotic dancer Deb Lister.

Doesn't matter anyway because if this is indeed Red Dwarf fanfic, the writer will soon be sued out of the place.
It's one thing to write about your favourite characters' sexytiem for fun. Quite another to charge 99p for it on Kindle. :thought:

If it's genuine, well, standards have slipped. :(

Actually, 99p on Kindle? Might bite.

I like the better-written fanfics - write some myself - but these days I steer clear of anything looking erotic. One, they tend to be appallingly written, as sex-based fics tend to be. Two, my experience with fic about the verging-on-surreal family TV show The Goldbergs had me realising there are some things that should not be on your search history, even if you got there accidentally. (Brief synopsis: Beverly Goldberg got far closer to her children than even the most dedicated Jewish Mother ever should, and I hope that hints at the content without being explicit.) Truly the Internet has its strange racks and crevices.

It looks very lame.

And yes, Fanfic ranges from the sublime to the....ridiculous...

In my innocence I only actually found out what 'slashfic' was through posts on this forum.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash_fiction

I know very well that there was life and, indeed, 'fandom' (I hate that term) before the Internet, but I find it hard to square the irrefutable fact that this kind of material emerged in a very offline late-70s.

It just seems so quintessentially 'web'.

Something about the 'distance' and anonymity granted by screens and pixels; can you imagine yourself actually hammering away at a typewriter or taking pen to paper and producing a line about Spock gushing seed into Kirk or somesuch?

And yet it happened!

We are around the same age, possibly the same age. I found out about slashfic in the late 90s, when the web was still frontier; through excerpt from an "internet novel" - Geoff Ryman's 253 which was was in a promotional anthology

I envy you retaining your innocence so long.

You would think so, this is a blatant rip off. It's not as though anyone reading erotica is expecting a particularly good story, how hard could it be to invent a story for the purposes of having some folk banging each other? My couple of forays into reading interactive erotica were enough to prove reading erotica isn't for me, but at least the ones I read had original stories.

Which makes me think the person who wrote this has got all horny while watching Red Dwarf of all things, and assumed other people do, too. I've watched Dwarf a lot, and that's never been my reaction.

The urge goes deep: writers will write.

I was once watching an old edition of Star Trek in which Spock and some other male crew member were huddled together in a tent on a desert planet in a howling gale.
For some reason (blaming you lot) I looked up Trekky fanfic and found an elaboration of that exact episode.
:omg:
