Ridiculous Accidents

Thousands injured doing DIY in England last year:
News story

But I fear they're burying the lede, as there were also nine people aged 90 or over who fell from playground equipment, a 90-year-old woman bitten by a "crocodile or alligator" and 60 people bitten by spiders. These are NHS hospital figures, and "the tip of the iceberg" as many of the injuries would be treated by GPs. Be careful out there!
WTF is a 90 year old doing on playground equipment?

Someone got stuck in mud in Chester. The Fire Brigade came, and then someone else got stuck.

I have a strong suspicion that the second person who got stuck was a rescue professional.

Luckily nobody was hurt. They just... got stuck.

Nine people got stuck on the apex of the "Ride to Happiness" rollercoaster at Plopsaland theme park in De Panne, Belgium.
The fire brigade's ladder was too short to reach the passengers, who were stuck at a height of 32 metres.

The five Belgians, three Germans and one Dutch national were freed by the use of a crane after six hours in the wind and rain.

I hope they charged extra for the ride on the crane.

OK, then - just for the record ...

The Plopsa theme parks are owned by Studio100. The Plopsa name is a mashup derived from the names of two Studio100 characters from the company's children's shows:

Kabouter Plop (Plop the Gnome) is the eponymous protagonist in a children's television series by Studio 100. ... Most episodes last about five minutes and are set in Plop's milk inn (which is a toadstool in which he sells plopmilk and plopcookies) or in Gnome forest.

Samson is a sweet naive Bearded Collie who can speak but consistently mispronounces certain words and cannot get names right.

As an ex member of the emergency services, and having undergone the extensive training surrounding unstable surface rescue techniques and use of portable rapid deployment equipment , I can categorically confirm, without a doubt, that yes, there is EVERY chance it was a firefighter that got stuck!

In fact, I’d be more fucking surprised if it wasnt!

Working for the South Australian Highways Dept. as a Plant mechanic, we would get Gangers ringing us up because their bloody bulldozer operators had bogged Their D9, and the D9 had thrown a track due to poor maintenance...Oh...and the scrapers bogged as well because they'd tried to pull the D9 out with it - 'so what can yous do' - meaning, when can you come up and dig it out.

They never did like the answer, which was, 'Yous'll 'ave ter wait till Spring mate'.

Just for the record, en panne is French for "broken down."

A Minnesota man out ice fishing on a frozen lake hopped on his snowmobile to run an errand. Unfortunately, his snowmobile was still tethered to the tent-style ice house, with his fishing partner still inside it.
Watch: Man forgets to unhook fish house, drives off with friend still inside

An ice fishing mishap caught on camera in northern Minnesota has been viewed around 150,000 times on YouTube.

The video was uploaded by Seth Trobec, who was filming the inaugural video for his Get In There Outdoors YouTube page when his buddy Cody Mjolsness left to go pick up another friend on their snowmobile.

Unfortunately, Mjolsness forgot that the snowmobile was still hooked up to their fish house, and he drove away with it still connected, and Trobec still inside.

As Mjolsness starts speeding away, Trobec dives into the gap to escape, taking a tumble on the ice. ...

Mahler's Symphony No.6 calls for a hammer blow (two or three according to the performance, actually).

Thus:

In addition to very large woodwind and brass sections, Mahler augmented the percussion section with several unusual instruments, including the famous "Mahler hammer". The sound of the hammer, which features in the last movement, was stipulated by Mahler to be "brief and mighty, but dull in resonance and with a non-metallic character (like the fall of an axe)." The sound achieved in the premiere did not quite carry far enough from the stage, and indeed the problem of achieving the proper volume while still remaining dull in resonance remains a challenge to the modern orchestra. Various methods of producing the sound have involved a wooden mallet striking a wooden surface, a sledgehammer striking a wooden box, or a particularly large bass drum, or sometimes simultaneous use of more than one of these methods.

Similarly, Lorin Maazel's 'The Ring Without Words', which is based on Wagner's Ring cycle, demands one.

What could go wrong?
