It's okay if you're "Royal Blindfolded", though.
I get the impression that they asked somebody to translate their menu into English, and the person they asked had a sense of humour.

A bit of a twat's trick, though.

Yeah.
Just the sort of thing I would do though TBH.
Makes me a twat too i guess.
I don't care - it gives someone a laugh.

They've potentially ruined someone's business just for a laugh. Perhaps there's a back story.

It might just be that the owners fully condoned it.
Get some publicity for a funny menu.
All foreign visitors will go there to see it.
You never can tell what peoples motivations are.
Still....gave us a laugh too didn't it.

Yup, possibly, who knows?

I have a mock Chinese menu somewhere with the names of apparently genuine dishes written phonetically to suggest unsavoury or suggestive English expressions.
Hu Flung Dhungh type of thing, y'know. Funny in its time but its day is past.

There was a similar cobbled-together story that did the rounds years ago comprising hi-hi-hilarious phonetic Chinese names, which some wag decided of a post-pub Friday afternoon to share on an organisation-wide email where I then worked, forgetting we were working in partnership with a Taiwanese company who got unintentionally included. His reference was swiftly supplied and not good.

Posts are now gone from earlier in the thread. Unfortunate phrasing, albeit unintentional sparked a discussion that distracted from the topic rather a lot. I've reviewed the posts in question: they will remain removed from view, and we have discussed the escalation and future strategems.

Onward and upward.

A You Tube creator I follow (Abroad in Japan) often highlights the sheer bizarrerie that is Japanglish - products, mottoes even store names that are a composite of English words which, to an English speaker can be hilarious or even shocking.
He wonders if it's the same phenomenon of English-speakers getting "exotic" tattoos of Chinese characters and being told they mean one certain thing, when a single character or combination can mean several utterly silly things.

I guess that when it was rising asthmatically it was wheezing a bit.
