This is literally what giving up royal duties means.

He made the decision.

If he had turned up to lay a wreath then he would have taken attention away from the Queen as he would not be with the Royal Family in attendance. If he had arranged to have a wreath laid privately this would have provided even more fodder to the MSM.

Shabby treatment of Harry by the Royal Family.

I do wish he wouldn't.
While it all looks like billionaire joyriding (well, OK it is), the longterm payoff is humans exploring and settling on other planets.
Which can only be a good thing for reducing the population on Earth.
There are other ways of doing that without ruining other planets, we could eat the rich :p
