The missing time aspect is something this case has in common with other encounters with small hominids such as the classic "little people" and the Native American stories.
Wonder wy Nick R hasn't investigated further, there could well have been other sightings in the area. Certainly he had at least as much to go on as he had with his 'British Bigfoot' investigations.
 
Being helpful (if they did fix the car?) is more house spirits isn't it? The sort you mustn't give clothes to but should leave saucers of milk for....
 
I've never given clothes to a hedgehog so I suppose it might be :D
