Strange Crimes

I hope he started the attack with saying "One two three four, I declare race war!"

Just because he didn't want to see his Ma & Da.

An EasyJet flight taking off in France had to be diverted last week because of a fake bomb threat.

On Jan. 18, flight EZY4319 from Lyon to Rennes was in the air when authorities received an anonymous call that suggested a bomb could be on the plane. The pilots returned to Lyon, but no bomb was found.

Authorities investigating the call said the person behind the threat was a 23-year-old college student in Rennes. He allegedly didn’t want his parents, who were on the flight, to visit him, according to the Mirror. Police took the unidentified suspect into custody and have charged him with “false news compromising the safety of an aircraft in flight,” according to the Independent.

This guy had some neck.

Authorities in Moscow have arrested a man suspected of a daring art heist at a leading Russian state-owned museum.

Police said they had found the 20th-century masterpiece Ai Petri. Crimea by the renowned Russian landscape painter Arkhip Kuindzhi at a building site outside Moscow after it vanished from an exhibition at the State Tretyakov Gallery on Sunday. The painting of the Ai-Petri peak in the Crimean mountains was being shown at a highly popular retrospective of Kuindzhi’s works at the Tretyakov and its theft fast became a media sensation in Russia.

Surveillance video from the Tretyakov broadcast on Russian state television on Monday showed a man dressed in jeans and a black shirt sauntering out of an exhibition bearing a painting he had just removed from the gallery wall.

Many years ago - my mate's father used to work for Rumbelows in Cleethorpes.
One day two chaps wearing brown technician-type overcoats walked into the shop and carried off a TV - no one thought to stop/question them.

I've just remembered a crime for which I took the initial report. It's more "stupid witness" than "strange crime", but here goes:

I was on the beat in our town centre when I was called to a well-known local TV, hi-fi and white goods shop. It's still there, privately-owned, i.e. not a national chain.

A salesman, who had completed the face-to-face transaction with the criminal, was reporting the theft of a telly using a stolen credit card. I was completing the standard Crime Report Form. When it came to the details on the plastic, the witness/victim became thoughtful. As far as I can remember, these were his exact words:

"I remember that the name on the card was [Dr. Absolutely Distinctive Name]. I recall that because he's my GP. Oddly enough, the last time I saw him he was much shorter than the offender. And white..."

I guess rehab didn't work for this guy.

A Florida man allegedly shot and killed his mother, father and brother after wiring a Bulgarian cam girl $200,000 that he stole from them.

The family members of Grant Amato, 29, were found dead in their home in Chuluota, Florida, on Friday after a co-worker reported Amato’s brother, Cody Amato, didn’t show up for work that day, ClickOrlando reported. Cody Amato’s girlfriend told the police that there had been problems in the family with Grant Amato in the months leading up to the killings, according to the arrest report. She said her boyfriend had even told her that he believed his brother might kill him.

Additionally, the report notes that after the parents, Chad and Margaret Amato, found out Grant Amato wired exorbitant sums of money to a woman on a Bulgarian adult website called Cam Girls, they made him check into a 60-day internet and sex addiction program, according to ClickOrlando. The arrest report indicates that he had been in contact with the woman since June 2018 and had given her $200,000 that he stole from his family. He checked into a rehabilitation facility in Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 22 and checked out on Jan. 4.

All rather odd and certainly looks like entrapment. There are plenty of "real" fake universities which the DHS could go after.

India has made a diplomatic protest to the US after 129 Indian students were arrested for enrolling in a fake university.

The University of Farmington, advertised as based in Michigan state, was run by undercover agents from the Department of Homeland Security to expose "pay-to-stay" immigration fraud. Prosecutors say those who enrolled knew that the facility would be illegal. However, Indian officials say the students may have been duped.

On Saturday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued the protest to the US embassy in Delhi, expressing concern over the arrests and demanding consular access to those detained.

It's a sh*t business.

SARASOTA (WWSB) - Police say a substitute teacher, angry over a complaint with the school she was working at, sabotaged a little girl’s birthday party by putting human fecal matter on tables and grills at a Sarasota park.

Police first learned of the incident on December 1, when a call came in around 6:30am from a witness who had seen a woman in rubber gloves and a face mask putting human fecal matter on top of seven tables and two grills at Urfer Park on Honore Avenue in Sarasota.

A quite weird breaking and entry incident apparently concluded in a calm and polite fashion (which adds to the weirdness) ...
College student finds man in closet wearing her clothes
A North Carolina college student says she found a man in her closet wearing her clothes.

Greensboro police spokesman Ron Glenn told news outlets the unidentified student ... came home at lunch Saturday and heard a noise in her closet in her off-campus apartment.

The student opened the closet door to find the man sitting on the floor in her clothing with a bag full of clothes, shoes and socks. She said she talked to the man for about 10 minutes and texted photos to her boyfriend, who arrived and asked the man to leave.

Glenn said the man wasn’t violent and doesn’t believe he and the student know one another.

Police charged 30-year-old Andrew Clyde Swofford with misdemeanor breaking and entering.

Ungrateful git.

Ohio cops say they saved a man’s life, only for him to turn around and allegedly steal their cruiser.

Columbus Police say they were called to a home on E. Gates Street on Thursday morning. That is where they found 25-year-old Jeremy Davis and gave him Narcan, a drug first responders use to reverse opioid overdoses. Once officers got him into an ambulance, they began looking up his information to see if he had warrants. At that point, they say Davis took off running and stole their police cruiser.

If I'm not mistaken, Narcan has a significantly shorter half life in the body than heroin - he may still have pegged it later from the overdose.

Bonsai Heist

A famous 400 year old tree was among those stolen. The thief or thieves knew what they were doing, with only the best in the collection being taken.

Man who robbed bank slips and spills cash in front of cop
Police say a man who had just robbed a bank in Maine ran across four lanes of traffic and a restaurant parking lot before slipping on ice and dropping his gun and the money in front of a state police special agent.

Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey tells the Morning Sentinel a gust of wind swept the greenbacks across the parking lot while the man was apprehended Tuesday.

The special agent, Glenn Lang, had no idea a bank had just been robbed. But he was suspicious enough to get out of his car and tackle the man.

Police say the man was handcuffed and hauled off to jail.

The weapon turned out to be a BB gun.

Maybe displaced polar bears drank it.

A Canadian vodka distiller has lost 30,000 litres of valuable iceberg water in what appears to be a heist.

Iceberg Vodka CEO David Meyers says he is mystified as to who - or why - someone would have stolen the water. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say someone made away with the liquid - enough to fill a tractor-trailer tanker - from a warehouse in the historic community of Port Union, Newfoundland. The water is valued at between C$9,000 ($6,775; £5,200) and C$12,000.

The CEO of the Newfoundland-based distiller told the BBC that the water was discovered missing on Monday after their facility manager found one of the tanks had been completely drained over the weekend.

I'm sure there's a rational explanation for this.

Transgender YouTuber “Furry Potato” was shot in the leg by a security guard on Thursday while livestreaming outside a Jewish synagogue and high school in Los Angeles, police said.

Zhoie Perez (a.k.a. Furry Potato), 45, was treated for a “non-life-threatening” gunshot wound and released. According to the Los Angeles Times, she described the wound as a “deep graze.” Police arrested the security guard, who was identified as Edduin Zelayagrunfeld, 44, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators also asked witnesses to come forward with any additional information about the incident:

Technically an unfortunate misunderstanding which got reported as a crime.

'Bomb threat' at a Home Depot turned out to be a man warning others about how badly he needed to use the restroom

“We just had a customer here made what may have been a bomb threat,” the caller said. “He said, uh, somebody told me there’s a bomb in here and you need to leave the building. He said it three times.”

Staff was alerted to the possible “bomb threat” after a person overheard the man in the store’s restroom. However, authorities learned that the threat was actually a euphemism used by a man who really had to use the bathroom.

A gorilla suit might not be the best camouflage for a Peeping Tom - especially in Louisiana, where wearing a mask can land you in prison.
Police: Man in gorilla suit breaks in home, hides under bed
Police say a man wearing a gorilla suit broke into a Louisiana home and hid under a mattress before officers arrested him.

News outlets quote Sulphur Police Department spokesman Mel Estes in Thursday reports as saying that officers saw Jeremie Moran walking through yards in the costume. They had received calls about a suspicious person looking into homes.

Estes says Moran ran into a home as officers approached but was discovered hiding. He was jailed on charges including resisting an officer, unauthorized entry, meth possession and wearing a mask.

In Louisiana, a person convicted of wearing a mask in public can be sentenced to three years in prison at most. Exceptions are allowed for religious purposes or on holidays like Halloween and Mardi Gras.

It's the official (firefighters') justifiable response that makes this otherwise minor and ordinary crime strange and noteworthy ...

Firefighters run hose through illegally parked vehicle

A California driver got an important reminder about not parking next to hydrants when firefighters had to shatter two of their windows.

The Anaheim Fire Department tweeted photos of a car after firefighters had to break both of its rear windows to run a hose through the vehicle to reach the hydrant.

"Ever wonder what happens when a car is parked in front of a fire hydrant and a fire breaks out?" the tweet said. "Is a closer parking spot worth the broken windows and the citation and towing fees to @AnaheimPD?"

The department said there wasn't enough room to run the hose under the car, and running it over the top of the vehicle would have caused more damage than merely breaking the two windows.

The vehicle was impounded and ticketed.

I wonder if this is Cult related.

Police found a woman and her teenage daughter in an apartment with the bodies of five relatives they had killed, including three children, authorities in the US state of Pennsylvania have said.

Shana S. Decree, 45, and Dominique Decree, 19, were charged with five counts of homicide and one count each of conspiracy. Shana Decree told police that “everyone at the apartment … wanted to die” and talked about suicide, according to court documents. Decree claimed one of the victims, Jamilla Campbell, 42, killed two other victims before she herself was killed.

Maryville man faces felony charge for dipping testicles in
salsa before delivery

Travis Dorman Knoxville News Sentinel

People usually dip chips in salsa. A Maryville man had another idea.
Howard Matthew Webb, 31, is accused of placing his testicles in a salsa container that was then delivered to a low-tipping customer last month. Maryville police arrested Webb on Friday on a charge of "adulteration of food, liquids or pharmaceuticals," a Class C felony.
The woman who received the salsa had ordered food Jan. 12 from a local Mexican restaurant through Dinner Delivered, an online food delivery service. Webb was a passenger in a vehicle driven by an independent contractor who worked for Dinner Delivered, general manager Aliyah Wilson told the Daily Times.

I'm getting a massive case of deja vu here .. hasn't this exact thing happened before?: Stradivarius violin misplaced on a train ? .. I'd swear it has without being able to recall the details ..

edit: yep .. CN's link backs me up .. but how the hell does anyone carrying anything worth $2 million absentmindedly forget about it? .. this careless phenomena is in danger of becoming Fortean ..
