While it's true that in terms of the overall crime rate the disabled community tends to generate lower figures, I don't think we shouldn't overlook assaults by any perpetrator.

She finally went to the doctor, and now he's going to prison
A Georgia woman and her ex-boyfriend were arguing in her car two years ago when her driver's side window shattered and she blacked out.
When she came to, she was in his car, not hers, and they went to his mother's house because she had a head wound.
She thought she had been cut by flying glass. But her ex, Jerrontae Cain, had a secret -- he had shot her.
Thursday, a judge sentenced Cain, 39, to 25 years in prison for several crimes including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. Cain had been convicted of felony sexual battery in 2010.
For a month after the shooting in 2017, the woman stayed at Cain's mother's house, suffering through severe headaches, dealing with memory loss and having trouble when she tried to talk, according to a news release from the Fulton County District Attorney's office. In June that year, a friend took her to the hospital.
Doctors at Atlanta Medical Center found a bullet in the back of her skull, one that would have to remain there because trying to take it out could kill her, the DA's office said.
Hospital staff alerted investigators, and the woman told them she didn't remember being shot -- she just recalled the window breaking.
Cain told police the woman, now 42, had crashed her car into a tree. But detectives found the crime scene inconsistent with his explanation, according to the DA's office.
They issued an arrest warrant but Cain was not caught until January 2019, more than a year later, when police showed up at a home in College Park, just south of Atlanta. He hid in an attic during a two-hour standoff until he surrendered, the DA's office said.
Cain was also sentenced to five years of probation to be served after his prison term.

A few bad apples stole 50,000 good ones from an orchard in LaPorte County, Indiana.
Jon and Robyn Drummond, owners of Williams Orchard, reported to the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office last Saturday that thieves had stolen the apples from an acre of trees.
"I was floored," Jon Drummond told CNN. "When someone comes in and commercially steals from you, it's like, whoa. That's a little disheartening." ...
"Almost every single apple from every single tree was completely wiped out," he said. "It was cleanly picked. I was like, oh my God, someone came in and stole these apples."
The Drummonds recently purchased the orchard, which was established in the 1860s, and even hosted a grand reopening on Labor Day weekend.
They estimate the missing apples are worth $27,000.
"Sadly, I don't have any insurance on it," said Jon Drummond. "I don't have theft insurance, and so I wasn't able to recoup any money. It was purely stolen out of our pockets."
The theft occurred in a secluded valley at the back of the orchard, he said.
The couple had just invested in building new gates, but had not yet installed locks, so the thieves were able to simply unchain the gates and drive through the orchard, he said.
"It probably was an insider job," said Jon Drummond. ...
He believes the missing apples might be used to make cider, or possibly sold through wholesalers or other distributors. ...
"We're looking for a pickup truck or some kind of trailer that could pull this large of product," Capt. Derek Allen of La Porte County Sheriff's Office told CNN affiliate WSBT. ...
Now that's chutzpah!
A woman facing sentencing for shoplifting went ‘robbing’ again during a lunchbreak in court and the sentencing judge said her offending was almost frightening.
Julianne O’Farrell, aged 27, of 8, Marble Hall Park, Douglas Rd, Cork, had 111 previous convictions including 26 for theft. She pleaded guilty to several more counts related to shoplifting today, including counts of theft, criminal damage to items and handling stolen property.
When Garda Paul Russell charged her with the lunchtime crime, O’Farrell replied, “I was fleecing the city for years before ye ever caught me.”

Three police officers were rescued by suspected drug traffickers they were chasing at sea off the coast of Spain, local authorities said.
On Friday morning, three Spanish maritime patrol agents attempted to intercept a boat with suspected narcotics off Costa del Sol. The agents' boat went "out of control" and hit the side of the suspects' vessel and the officers fell into the sea, Civil guard authorities said.
The suspects rescued the three police officers as a helicopter hovered over the area.
"The crew of the helicopter of the Malaga Air Unit, upon realizing the imminent danger to the civil guards, required the occupants of the other vessel to support them by public address, being rescued by them and being all unharmed," the police statement read.
Although the four men rescued the occupants, they were arrested for drug trafficking after 80 bundles of hashish -- weighing more than three tons -- were found in the sea.

A strange (possible) crime and an even stranger witness.
A chef has been spared jail after his prank left a kitchen porter with horrific internal injuries. Gary Trice, 29, pierced his new colleague’s anus with a broom handle while trying to copy something he had seen on Facebook. He told Lewis Mitchell, 21, to fetch cupcake holders from the top of a fridge then placed the broom underneath him. When Mr Mitchell lost his grip on the fridge he landed on the handle which pierced his backside, went through the intestines and stopped just short of his stomach.
Self-explanatory really -

"Bigfoot is missing," the department tweeted.
Police are asking anyone with information on the missing statue to contact detectives.
