Strange Crimes

Stabbed to death over parking.

A woman came out of her home and stabbed a man to death in a row over a parking space while her husband and children were inside the house unaware of what was happening on the street outside, gardaí believe.

The man who died in the attack near Citywest, Co Dublin, on Tuesday morning had not been officially named by the Garda last night but was named locally as Garreth Kelly, a 39-year-old with an address in Tallaght, Dublin.

A woman – a mother of three – was arrested close to the crime scene on suspicion of murder and she spent most of her period in custody on Tuesday being mentally and physically examined by medics.

Gardaí are trying to establish if a mental health condition was a factor in her alleged fatal attack on Mr Kelly as he tried to start his car to leave for work.

He was attacked at Brownsbarn Wood estate, in Kingswood near Citywest, Dublin 24, just before 7am. His body was found lying between his car and another vehicle on the street.

Unfortunately does not surprise me at all, it seems to me that the people most likely to go mental with road rage are females in the 25 to 35 year old age range, at least in this area.

Does this mean it's being investigated as a PMS-induced attack? :thought:

Woman accused of zipping boyfriend into suitcase, leaving him to die

Authorities in Florida have arrested a woman accused of zipping her boyfriend into a suitcase, recording his repeated cries for help and leaving him locked inside until he died, according to sheriff's office documents.

Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office took Sarah Boone, 42, into custody on second-degree murder charges in the death of Jorge Torres Jr., 42, the agency said in a statement Tuesday.

Boone called 911 Monday afternoon from her Winter Park home and told dispatchers her boyfriend was dead, news outlets reported. Investigators said she claimed they had been drinking the night before and agreed it would be funny if Torres got into the suitcase during a game of hide-and-seek, according to court records obtained by news outlets.

Boone reportedly admitted she zipped Torres into the suitcase, went upstairs to bed and awoke the next morning to find him still inside and unresponsive, the documents alleged.

The sheriff's office said Boone's statements didn't line up with video evidence found on her phone showing a blue suitcase facing downward with Torres trying to free himself. In the video, he called for help and yelled that he couldn't breathe, authorities said.

Boone could be heard laughing and saying: “That’s what I feel like when you cheat on me."

I think this fits here, Chapman even had fake CIA ID.

Man charged after he allegedly killed a woman, moved into her house and impersonated her on social media

Federal prosecutors charged a Pennsylvania resident with kidnapping after he allegedly lured a woman he led to believe was his girlfriend to the Nevada desert, killed her and moved into her house, authorities say. John Matthew Chapman, 40, is set to appear in federal court in western Pennsylvania on Monday on one count of kidnapping resulting in the death of Jaime Feden, 33. He's in state custody in Allegheny County in Pennsylvania as he awaits his initial appearance in federal court, the US Attorney's Office in Nevada said.

Chapman told police the incident began in September. He convinced Feden to drive with him from Pennsylvania to Las Vegas under the guise of a vacation and the potential to move there together, the criminal complaint says. They arrived in Vegas around September 23. Two days later, he told her they were doing a desert "bondage themed photo shoot." He bound her hands and feet with zip ties, affixed her to a signpost, and duct taped her mouth and nose until she died from suffocation, the complaint says. He then removed the tape, zip ties and her clothing, and left her body there, according to the complaint.

By hook or by crook.

Australian police are attempting to catch a thief who used a fishing rod to steal a Versace necklace from a high-end designer store in Melbourne.

The thief was caught on CCTV trying to hook the A$800 (US$529; £414) jewellery off a mannequin's neck.

He poked the rod through a hole he chipped in the store's window without setting off the alarm, police said.

Using two rods, the thief took three hours to land his catch, reeling in the necklace at about 02:00 on 24 February.

Steven Adigrati, owner of the Le Style boutique, told local media he was stunned by the "outrageous and courageous" theft.

"I couldn't believe it," Mr Adigrati told Nine News. "Three-and-a-half hours, with two rods, trying to get this necklace, was amazing. Hook, line, and sinker, I guess. He did it."

Three and a half hours just for that amount? Not exactly Raffles, is he?

Not to mention he apparently never noticed the camera in those three and a half hours ...

I'm curious about the store's location. If he finally snagged the necklace circa 0200 on 24 February, it implies he began his caper circa 2230 on 23 February. Where is this urban retail area in which there's no foot traffic, motor traffic, nor police patrols around midnight (give or take)?

A remote back alley would be a strange place for a "high-end designer store."

The shop has its own website. It describes its location as:

Located in the heart of Melbourne’s premier fashion precinct at 136 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, Australia.

... and the website provides a convenient Google Map illustrating its street location.

Here's a large photo of the storefront at night, taken from their website's slideshow:

If you open this large photo full-size and look slightly up and to the right of the "ASSIN" sign (stop that snickering in the back! ... ) you'll see what I believe to be the CCTV camera - plainly visible at night.

It’s not a bad wage for three hours’ “work”, with - apparently - minimal chance of being caught.

The average “take” for a UK mugging, for comparison, seems to be £180 (page 15 here):

We had a spate of thefts using hooks on sticks via letterboxes in my crappy wee town many years ago, but the take was clothing.

Terrible consequences of an attempted robbery, another 200 were injured.

Italian police have arrested seven young men in connection with a stampede at a nightclub last year which killed six people.

Six of those held are accused of manslaughter. The men, aged between 19 and 22, are suspected of sparking panic by using pepper spray to rob people inside the Blue Lantern club in Corinaldo. Five of the victims were 14 to 16 years old. The sixth was a 39-year-old woman who was at the venue with her daughter. Police allege the men they were part of a criminal group operating in central and northern Italy.

Six men in court over the stampede.

The stampede at the Lanterna Azzurra (Blue Lantern) club was a tragedy that traumatised Italy in December 2018, leaving five teenagers and a woman dead.

Two hundred others, mainly young Italians, were injured in the panic in the crowded club in Corinaldo.

Six men were facing a judge at a court hearing in Ancona, central Italy, on Thursday on charges of manslaughter. Prosecutors believe the panic was started deliberately to rob the crowd. But it swiftly became a disaster, known in the Italian media as the "Corinaldo massacre", with Pope Francis saying prayers for the victims in St Peter's Square.

Now in their early twenties and from the Modena area of the northern Emilia-Romagna region, the six men were arrested on 2 August of last year. They are named as Ugo Di Puorto, Andrea Cavallari, Moez Akari, Raffaele Mormone, Souhaib Haddada and Badr Amouiyah. As well as manslaughter, the suspects face charges of criminal association, causing bodily harm and theft.

A seventh man, 65-year-old Andrea Balugani, was arrested for receiving stolen goods and criminal association. He has entered a plea bargain which involves a prison sentence of just under five years.

Report: Neighbor steals skeleton over offensive gesture

A New Mexico woman is facing a larceny charge after authorities say she stole a neighbor’s anatomical skeleton model that allegedly was making an offensive gesture toward her.

Court documents filed Monday show that Diana Hogrebe was charged with one count of larceny in connection with the skeleton heist ...

Hogrebe of Cuyamungue, New Mexico, told Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies she was offended by the way the skeleton’s hand was posed — with the middle finger pointed up.

Hogrebe told the Santa Fe New Mexican the episode was the culmination of a months long feud between her and neighbor Joseph Downs, who she said has hassled her family and other nearby residents.

“I just, you know, had it,” Hogrebe said. “It was like the last straw that broke the camel’s back, and I don’t know what to do.”

The skeleton has not been located, authorities said.

According to the deputy’s statement of probable cause, the skeleton was a gift to Downs from a family member and was worth about $1,500.

Hogrebe took it in the early morning hours Feb. 27, the statement said. She told the deputy the finger pose had offended and upset her.

“It just put me to the boiling point,” she said in the interview Tuesday.

Downs, who has lived near her for less than a year, regularly harasses her, her 19-year-old daughter, her husband and other neighbors and family members who live in the area ...

He sets off a propane cannon, typically used by farmers to scare birds from their fields, she said, and plays loud music at all hours.

The deputy’s statement said Downs had video showing Hogrebe entering his property and then walking back to her home with the white skeleton.

Hogrebe “stated she knew what she had done was wrong and admitted to having removed the skeleton” ...

Missouri man dressed as Joker charged in terrorist threats

A suburban St. Louis man accused of livestreaming threats to bomb and kill people in a bustling entertainment district while dressed as the Batman villain the Joker has been charged with terrorism.

Forty-eight-year-old Jeremy Garnier, of University City, was charged Tuesday with a felony count of making a terrorist threat. A judge ordered Garnier held without bail, with court documents noting that he was a “danger to the community.” ...

The charging document doesn’t indicate whether he was in possession of any explosives or was otherwise armed.

Police responded Monday night to the Blueberry Hill restaurant and music club in the Delmar Loop neighborhood in University City after receiving a call about an active shooter, according to the charging document. The charges said Garnier had made threats while dressed as the Joker.

A nearly hourlong livestream posted to the Facebook account for a Jeremy Joseph Garnier shows a man dressed as the Joker, complete with makeup, talking to the camera in a bedroom where he is putting on a costume. He’s later seen driving in his car, smoking a pipe and going to the St. Louis Galleria shopping mall in Richmond Heights, where he’s stopped by security and asked to leave. The video then shows him talking about ending the country’s opioid epidemic before he enters the venue where he orders a soda, saying: “I can’t be inebriated when I’m planning on, you know, killing a bunch of people.”

Within minutes, the man was handcuffed with the livestream still rolling. ...

Garnier has eight burglary and stealing convictions dating back to 1990.
