Strange Crimes

I think @maximus otter posted a comment about a guy who complained to him that his landlord was cooking his food in machine oil, maybe he wasn't so crazy.

A man who sold potato chips cooked in dirty oil from a power transformer has been sentenced by a court in Kenya.

Elijah Mwangi Muthoga was arrested just over a year ago in possession of 11 litres of the oil at a hotel he runs in Nyandarua County.

He must now serve a two year prison sentence or pay a fine of 200,000 shillings ($1,570; £1,300).

A harsher sentence of 10 years in prison or a 10m shilling fine was handed to Zachary Mwangi Gitau, the man found guilty of procuring the oil for Muthoga by vandalising a power transformer.

More cat shavings in Kent

The situation has got so severe that a map has now been created by Medway-based charity Animals Lost and Found.

The animal welfare organisation says it is adding to the map every other day as people report attacks on their pets at an alarming rate.

Incidents have been reported across Kent, from Northfleet down to Dover, with the majority seem to be confined to Medway, and in particular Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester.

Minnesota father allegedly uses moose antler, shovel to fatally beat man he suspected of abusing children, police say

Levi William Axtell, 27, turned himself in to police Wednesday and admitted to killing a 77-year-old man, a criminal complaint states.
A Minnesota father allegedly used a moose antler and a shovel to fatally beat an elderly man he believed was sexually abusing children, a criminal complaint states.

Levi William Axtell, 27, turned himself in to police Wednesday, minutes after he killed a 77-year-old man. Axtell allegedly admitted to the crime, telling detectives that he had known the victim for a long time and "believed him to have sexually offended against children in the past," according to the complaint.

A witness told the Cook County Sheriff's Office that around 5 p.m. Wednesday, a person in a white Dodge Caravan pulled into the driveway of the victim's Grand Marais home, smashed a vehicle and then ran inside the residence, the document says.

The witness heard screams coming from inside the home and saw the driver of the van flee the scene.

Las Vegas man allegedly carjacked and killed man before masking DNA evidence with urine and feces

A Las Vegas, Nevada, man is in custody after allegedly committing a carjacking and killing a man on New Year’s Day, trying to burn the vehicle and pouring urine and feces inside to cover up and mask his DNA, according to reports.

The man who pulled Roy Kridler out of the vehicle was later identified as 25-year-old Chanler McCloud.

As for why he set the vehicle on fire, police said McCloud drove around but could not find bleach to destroy his DNA. Instead, he used a candle to burn the seat before pouring urine and feces to hide and mask the DNA.

This is a truly strange story and one of the most disturbing things I've ever read (sic).

The headline "'Eunuch maker' appears in London court on GBH charges' is only the tip of the iceberg, but gives a clue to the story. The term eunuch maker isn't used euphemistically, and prepare for a pretty gruelling and depressing read.

Sometimes I give up hope for humanity (actually, I quite often give up hope for humanity, and this is one of those occasions).

This came up after I was asleep so when I saw the Guardian article I posted it to the Mutilation thread.

It's not about the money -
A total of nine men appeared in courts in central London and Wales on Wednesday over the alleged six-year plot, which is said to have brought in about £200,000 in income.

Less than 4 grand each. :dunno:
Though I doubt it was shared equally.

Odd, considering that the Groan has been an enthusiastic supporter of men having their bodies mutilated professionally.

Mail from man who 'shot up' Apache helicopter led to his arrest

The man who allegedly shot at an Apache helicopter from his plot in Uddel with an air rifle on Thursday reported it himself to the Royal Air Force. He sent an e-mail to the hotline for nuisance complaints. The Royal Air Force forwarded the mail to the Royal Military Police, whereupon the man was arrested. His home was also searched.

Earlier, Defence reported that the Apache had been shot at. That conclusion was drawn based on the mail the man had sent, the damage to one of the helicopters and because of an air rifle found during the search.

It now turns out that it has not been established at all that the Apache was shot at. The aircraft has damage, but what caused it is not clear. The man's son says his father did not actually fire, writes Omroep Gelderland.

There are regular exercises with combat helicopters around the man's home town. They fly low to the ground as training to dodge anti-aircraft guns and radars. The man's hobby cattle would be constantly frightened by this.

"They fly so low that you can't even understand each other. My father made it clear with gestures that they should go away, but he did not shoot," the son told the regional broadcaster on Friday.

The man was released yesterday, but he remains a suspect of endangering an aircraft and threatening.

911 Call About Naked Woman Climbing Tree Leads Deputies To Dead Body

A 911 call about a naked woman climbing a tree led deputies to the discovery of a dead body of another woman inside a Florida home.

The naked woman, identified as Sheree Latoya Williams, 34, of West Palm Beach, was arrested Sunday after police suspected her involvement in the victim's killing.

The landlord further told deputies that he initially tried to get Williams to put her clothes back on. When he went inside her apartment, he found a deceased Black woman "with a black cord around her neck," according to a probable cause affidavit.

Deputies eventually detained Williams and took her to a local hospital for treatment. She was charged with first-degree murder.

A bit odd alright, a former Chief of Staff to a Maryland's Governor flees across state lines and dies in a (possible) shootout with FBI agents.

Roy McGrath, who served as the top aide to former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R), died Monday during a confrontation with law enforcement after a three week manhunt.

McGrath had been on the run for 21 days after he failed to show up for a trial March 13 on fraud and embezzlement charges in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.

A lawyer for his family said McGrath died after federal agents attempted to arrest him Monday evening. It’s unclear if he died of a self-inflicted wound or during an exchange of gunfire with federal agents.

“The loss of Roy’s life is an absolute tragedy, and I think it’s important for me to say that Roy never wavered about his innocence,” Joseph Murtha, an attorney for McGrath’s wife, told The Washington Post.

The FBI said earlier Monday that McGrath was injured during an “agent-involved shooting” near Knoxville, Tennessee. He was taken to a hospital but died of his wounds. Authorities have not yet detailed the events leading up to the confrontation.

McGrath was indicted in 2021 on a series of fraud charges. In one instance, prosecutors accused McGrath of defrauding the Maryland Environmental Service of a more than $233,000 severance package before he left to work for Hogan.
