Strange Deaths

Latest I've heard (R4 news) is that the charge is of causing death by dangerous driving.

Here is a view from the street in Aug 2022;
Comparing it with the photo above, it seems to me that the bit of fence to the right of the black gate and railings is now missing.

I watched a lot of footage yesterday, and I was unable to see any part of the fence missing.
The photos on the news aren't showing that at all.

In hunck's post above, you can see the ropes where they've cordoned the area off where she went through.

Had to really zoom in. I can see it now. The railings that were there must have become detached and they've been put to one side.

No tyre tracks though no signs of braking

I mentioned last year on another thread, how a woman came barreling down the high street here one day and just rammed a parked car.

@Tunn11 came up with a theory that it may have been due to her switching her car from an automatic to a manual. In other words she had depressed the clutch with her right foot instead of the brake and therefore freewheeled (only the right foot is used in an automatic) - although it's quite a big jump from accelerator to clutch and bypassing the brake by mistake.

Another possibility anyway.

Texas beekeeper, 79, dies after freak fire occurs while harvesting honey: police

A 79-year-old beekeeper in White Settlement, Texas, was killed while harvesting honey Wednesday morning, police say.

The man was gathering honey at a house on Vaquero Street, when a building behind the house went up in flames.

Police did not release a cause of death for the victim.

Authorities needed a beekeeper to arrive on the scene to control the swarming honey bees. Cook confirmed that three first responders were hurt by the insects, but they did not incur life-threatening injuries.

I find this odd. Maybe there are details missing. If a building behind the house catches fire and the guy is tending to bees outside, how is he dead at the scene?

He's outside behind another building. How does this even work? Was the fire so large that thick smoke immediately cover the area and he had smoke inhalation?

The one pic in the article doesn't even show any building right next to the hives (if this is the area the guy died). There is also no smoke showing in the pic, so even my idea of thick smoke engulfing him makes no sense.

I kind of assumed that the bees got angry and attacked the beekeeper, somehow stinging him to death, since there was mention of other people getting stung - maybe he removed some of his protective equipment.

Beekeepers use smoke to deal with bees in the first place. It calms them down I think. Why would a burning house cause them to panic?
Maybe they fled a burning hive? Who knows? There's not really enough information in the article.

Beekeeper friend says it's the heat from the fire that panics them, the smoke just seems to suffocate them enough to calm then down!

I may have used the wrong words there. He too is autistic, specialist subject: bees.

I'm guessing heart attack? The beekeeper not the bees. Poor guy :(

This was the local Aldi today pulled on the be greeted by 5 or 6 police vehicles and 2 ambulances,
apparently the driver of the blue car had a seizure, 4 cars and 1 shopping trolly, the trolly and blue
car look like wright offs, a cop opened the door and it fell off, no one died but think one carted
off to hossy, hard to believe so much carnage can happen on a car park.

:( what did the blue car hit?

The white and red in front and one you cant see behind them, they look ok but
there were bits everywhere and a lot of damage you cant see in the pic,
one had a mother and 4 kids in it they had blue taped the area when we came out.
Poor trolly is on the right.
One with whiplash another with a broken arm.

I can imagine her coming down the narrow road on the left that would line her up with
the hole in the fence, still putting her slap on or on the phone and plowing straight
on through the waiting people near the gate, but who knows.
Cant see any signs of braking maybe she had a blackout.
Yes that's the one I meant.

I've known of several car accidents resulting in fatalities in parking lots. One, the woman drove and hit people and didn't appear to hit the brakes (as per reports) and drove through the front of a Costco. Now there are bollards permanently installed in front of the store.

I'm not sure how you can be so out to lunch to do that in a parking lot. You shouldn't have much speed, and there (at least at the Costco) is not a lot of room to maneuver, but the amount of damage is huge. All the above mentioned woman was trying to do was park.

I suspect that many of these incidents in car parks involve an auto box and drivers pressing the accelerator instead of the brake. Driver panics and hits the pedal harder thinking its the brake. Disaster ensues.

Yep. Auto boxes. Usually older/elderly drivers that have switched from a manual gearbox, only drive occasionally, and panic when things go wrong, and with their advancing years their reflexes are not what they once were.

Domestic violence suspect revealed to be man crushed to death in south London dustcart after he climbed in to hide from police

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-revealed-man-crushed-death-south-London.html

Detectives are said to be working on the theory that the man, in his late 40s, was inside the bin when it was tipped into the dustcart truck by council contractors collecting bins in Wandsworth, south west London.
The man was found in the rear of the bin lorry at 9.25am on Monday, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The headline seems to be the wrong way round. A domestic violence suspect isn't exactly of national interest. Nobody would hear of him without his strange death.

So rather than

Domestic violence suspect revealed to be man crushed to death in south London dustcart after he climbed in to hide from police

it should be

Man crushed to death in south London dustcart after he climbed in to hide from police revealed to be domestic violence suspect

In that order it tells more of a story.

But that's just me. :dunno:

The Daily Star might use the following headline:

Man crushed to death in dustcart was a bit of a bastard

Or the real minimalist headline Man crushed to death in a dustcart which is factual but not exactly attention-grabbing.
Howabout Police suspect crushed to death while hiding?

The waters become murkier.

The story of a boat that sank on Lake Maggiore on 28 May has elements of a spy novel.

Four people tragically drowned on the picturesque and popular lake south of the Swiss Alps. One was a former agent from Israel's spy agency Mossad, two were Italian intelligence officers and the fourth victim was a Russian woman. They were among 23 people aboard the small boat that set out to cruise the lake.

It is no doubt a traumatic event for the survivors and for the families who lost loved ones - but a number of facts about the case have prompted speculation about what exactly happened.

Lake Maggiore and its shoreline are divided between the Italian regions of Lombardy and Piedmont, and the Swiss canton of Ticino. Several companies that produce technology capable of both military and civilian use are located in Lombardy - and Switzerland is considered a transit country for many intelligence members. And some of the people on the boat, of both nationalities, had apartments and houses there.

While some reports say the boat ride was an innocent pleasure trip, several major Italian news outlets are reporting that it was a secret work meeting between Italian and Israeli agents.

There is huge interest in the accident and public prosecutor Carlo Nocerino has been tasked with finding out what happened. He says 13 of those on board were Italian agents and eight were Israeli agents. Only the captain, Claudio Carminati, and his Russian wife did not work in intelligence. ...

This one seems to have gone quiet.

Variously reported that a woman in her 40s has been charged with dangerous driving, and/or 'driving without due care and attention'.
I'm not entirely certain, but the fact that someone died could also lead to a charge of 'manslaughter'?
Anyhoo, speculation would lead one to believe that seeing as it's a fairly small road in a tight residential area that the driver was most likely travelling too fast for the road and circumstances, might not have been familiar with the area, was not fully paying attention to her surroundings (on her phone maybe?) and failed to negotiate the slight bend in the road before losing control completely (maybe clipping a kerb?) and crashing through the fence.
The fact that it then took quite a distance to actually come to a stop is of concern. At 30mph, in a Range Rover type vehicle, the stopping distance is less than 75 feet.

Not on grass it won't be. But there seem to be no skid marks. Maybe the driver did have a medical episode as some have reported?

Or just panic. I was a passenger in a car many years ago when an inexperienced (but sober) driver , trying to make an emergency stop, slammed his foot on the accelerator thinking it was the brake. This was a car with offset pedals, not so unusual at one time. Oh and RHD, 'cos UK.

Fortunately we were going fairly slow (30?) to start with. Didn't half make a mess of the car in front though. Luckily no one had any more than shock.

Edit: I've switched between manuals (stick) and autos over my driving career, but I never drive autos two footed. Likely to give you wrong muscle memory, IMO.
