Being jailed for an accident - even if it was by carelessness - is acceptable.
Being executed for an accident - even if it was by carelessness - is an overreaction.
The punishment should fit the crime. It might be said that a life demands a life (hiding behind the Biblical 'eye for an eye'), and it's sometimes argued that execution dissuades murder - though this isn't borne out by reality - but executing someone for a fatal accident won't stop accidents.
Anyone is open to accidents - though many are a forseeable risk.
