Strange Deaths

Being jailed for an accident - even if it was by carelessness - is acceptable.
Being executed for an accident - even if it was by carelessness - is an overreaction.
The punishment should fit the crime. It might be said that a life demands a life (hiding behind the Biblical 'eye for an eye'), and it's sometimes argued that execution dissuades murder - though this isn't borne out by reality - but executing someone for a fatal accident won't stop accidents.
Anyone is open to accidents - though many are a forseeable risk.

Agree with you but in this case it was a foreseeable accident, the moron rode an electric unicycle on a footpath.

Inventor: "This is absolutely foolproof!"
British Public: "Sounds like a challenge to us!"
Makes me think of the 'shatterproof' plastic rulers we had at school. They meant with ordinary use, not from wilful destruction.
Remember the bloke who used to throw himself at a window in a high-rise building to show how strong it was?

He eventually loosened the frame so much, it fell out and took him with it.

This is more a case of tragic than strange, but two sisters and a son set off to live off grid in Colorado last summer, but it's okay, while not experienced they had done online research and watched YouTube videos.

This summer their partially mummified remains were found. They were malnourished but investigators "suspect the group may have succumbed to starvation, freezing temperatures or carbon monoxide poisoning from trying to make fire to stay warm".

[Edited to add the following]

Adding to the tragedy is that they were only nine miles away from Ohio City, which would be, I guess, half a day's walk assuming it's quite rugged or wooded terrain - also assuming they had the right kit, of course.

Their first mistake was living in a tent.
Very sad.

I recall hearing about an elderly man who pulled off a highway onto an exit ramp, and decided to park there and take a nap.
A man hit this vehicle when he took the exit, the elderly man died, and the man who hit him ended up in prison for 'vehicular homicide' for several years. He lost his construction business and his wife also divorced him.
So much tragedy for all these people, when a safe parking spot would have been a happy ending for everyone.

Not really a strange death but I couldn't find a more appropriate place.

Postwoman dies after being stuck for three days in tower block lift when no one heard her screams for help

https://www.thesun.ie/news/11111295/postwoman-dies-after-being-stuck-lift-delivering-mail/

A POSTWOMAN tragically died after being stuck in a lift for three days during her round delivering mail.
Mum-of-one Olga Leontyeva, 32, desperately called for help after getting trapped in the lift in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
But a source said that "no one heard her shouts for help."
The woman had been reported missing by her worried relatives after she failed to return from work on July 24.
Her body was found in the lift stuck on the top floor of a nine-storey high rise.

It's probably just me, but how can they know that she shouted for help if nobody heard her?

This is tragic

Mum dies from water toxicity after drinking nearly 2 litres in 20 minutes

Sounds unlikely but according to the Metro:

Water toxicity is rare but can happen when someone drinks an excessive amount of water in a short period of time.

The large amount of water overwhelms the ability of the body’s complex organ systems, especially the kidneys, to regulate the balance of fluids.

Ideally the body needs an equilibrium between water and electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and chloride, which ensures proper cell function.

Sodium is especially important for its ability to maintain communication between cells via electrical impulses.

Sodium also helps absorb nutrients in the digestive system and the kidneys, which adjusts the amount of water and electrolytes reabsorbed into the bloodstream or excreted through urine.

Dr Blake Froberg, a toxicologist at the hospital where Ms Summers was treated, recommends ‘making sure that you’re drinking things that have electrolytes and sodium and some potassium’ to avoid water toxicity.

He said it’s most likely to occur during hot weather or if someone works outside or exercises regularly.

Symptoms of water toxicity include muscle cramps and spasms, drowsiness, nausea, headaches, confusion and, in severe cases, seizures and loss of consciousness.

From The Guardian, death by cheese:

Italian man crushed to death under falling cheese wheels

Giacomo Chiapparini, 74, from Romano di Lombardia, was buried when a shelf broke in his warehouse

An Italian man has been crushed to death under thousands of vast wheels of a parmesan-style hard cheese, which weigh about 40kg each, firefighters have said.

Giacomo Chiapparini, 74, was buried under the cheeses when a shelf broke in his warehouse in the northern Lombardy region on Sunday, creating a domino effect which brought down thousands of wheels, the firefighter Antonio Dusi told AFP on Monday.

Rescuers “had to move the cheeses and the shelves by hand”, Dusi said, adding that it “took about 12 hours” to finally find Chiapparini.

I was posting this at the same time and deleted mine.

That sounds totally horrible and my only hope is that the death was instantaneous rather than by suffocation or a drawn-out death while conscious. Given the vast weight of the cheeses my guess is that would have been quick.

At 40kg per wheel, just one would be enough to finish him off if it hit him right, and 4 or 5 would be almost dead cert to do the job, but thousands of them...

And it took firefighters 12 hours to find him! I would imagine that it might be like people caught in ruble from an earthquake.

3 from Florida die after falling into cistern in Bastrop County, Texas

Officials say three people and a dog fell to their death in a cistern in a cornfield in Bastrop County Wednesday morning.

Investigators say they got a call around 1 a.m. that there were some people trapped in a hole near New Trails and Country Road 461 north of Elgin.

When first responders arrived, a man said he and three others had been heading out to go hog hunting when a dog ran off and fell in a 4-foot by 4-foot hole that turned out to be a cistern.

Officials say one of the hunters jumped in after the dog.

Then, two other hunters jumped in after them while the other man went back to his truck to call 911. The sheriff says it's evident that they went in later because the woman had removed her shoes and the man had taken off his pants and boots.

Investigators say there was hydrogen sulfide gas in the cistern and they believe the victims were overcome by the gas and unable to stay afloat. They are still awaiting autopsy results to confirm.
