Strange Deaths

In the 1970s blaxploitation movie Sugar Hill a gangster is fed to some pigs by the heroine.

The pigs then rap:

"...that's it, I gotta leave this place
I don't care what these people think
I'm just sittin' here makin' myself nauseous
With this ugly food that stinks
..."

Sugarhill Gang, “Rapper’s Delight

It was from 1974, so no rap yet. It did have a groovy soul theme tune about a "Voodoo Lady" or something.

This might yet end up in Fortean Crime.

A murder investigation is under way in Italy after the death of a Moroccan model who testified against former PM Silvio Berlusconi in 2012.

Imane Fadil, 33, died on 1 March in a Milan hospital, a month after being admitted with stomach pains. At the time she said she had been poisoned. Italian media say she may have been poisoned with a radioactive substance. She was a key witness against Mr Berlusconi, who was accused of paying for sex with an underage prostitute.

Not sure on this. Why would someone already convicted, murder a witness who already testified?
The article reports of a book Fadil was going to release, so maybe someone mentioned in book who was not named prior? Though poisoning with radioactive elements seems to be the "go to" method of the day. Why not just a regular poisoning? I can't believe radioactive elements can be so accessible. Or am I being naive?
I never have been good at unravelling subterfuge so subplots or any such thing loses me.

They're more accessible than you may think, but it's probably best not to mention where they are on a public forum.

It's the method used which makes me suspect we will hear more about this.

Luke Blackhurst died after taking dangerous cocktail of drugs:

The opening of an inquest in to his death heard it was not unusual for the young man to take different drugs, including ketamine and morphine.
He was found dead in his home after a night out.
The inquest heard Mr Blackhurst’s last activity on his laptop was searching the internet for the side-effects of eating out-of-date noodles.
His mother said she suspected the off noodles may have killed him.

I suspect that he inherited his brains from his mother's side of the family.

I guess this rules out the GRU as being the culprits.

Initial tests on Imane Fadil, a 33-year-old Moroccan model who died in hospital in Milan, appear to have ruled out claims that she suffered from radioactive poisoning.

Investigators are trying to find out what led to the model's death, after prosecutors said there were "several anomalies" in her records.

Ms Fadil was a key witness in the trial of ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. ...

Tissue samples from the model's kidney and liver were sent to specialists who said it was "increasingly unlikely" on the basis of initial tests that she had been contaminated by radioactive substances. Further tests still have to be done at a research centre in Rome and a post-mortem examination will also be carried out. Researchers now have to determine if she died of a rare illness that ravaged her immune system or if she suffered from metal poisoning. ...

I'm guessing if it's dried noodles, they'd last pretty much for ever, unlike poor Mr Blackhurst. I'm not trying to be flippant, but it's hard not to be staggered at the lack of awareness the mother displays.

l think she’s pretty well aware. Her Gofundme page has raised the cost of the tragic drug noodle victim’s funeral already. lf his death won’t earn her any compo, at least his interment won’t lose her anything.

That reminds me. I'm off to buy some Jaffa cakes...

Is it wrong of me to want to know how many Jaffa Cakes we are talking about?

it's actually quite grim if you read the link

Bethan Gaskin, 24, passed out and stopped breathing after the chocolate snacks became lodged in her throat.

The mother-of-one tried to spit them out, but collapsed at her home in Bourne, Lincolnshire on February 22 and was rushed to hospital.
The beauty therapist suffered a heart attack but tragically died at Peterborough City Hospital five days later from sustained brain injuries.

What about pot noodles? Can you smoke pot noodles?

If she was gonna stuff so many in her mouth she should have had a drink with them to make them disperse, silly woman

A really tragic case.

A newborn baby has died after being discovered under the body of his dead mother in a maternity hospital room.

The mother, who was in her 30s, and her baby boy were found on the floor of the single room at Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) on Monday morning. Medical staff are understood to have made the discovery during ward checks just before 08:00 local time. The baby, who was given emergency treatment, died on Tuesday evening.

It is believed the mother may have trapped her infant beneath her after falling from the bed during a a medical episode while breast feeding.

8 Am seems very late for a hospital to be checking patients.

I'm wondering if they weren't handed over from shift to shift properly :(

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Requiescant in pace. Amen.
