Hi!!!

I was looking online last night and found all these videos on YouTube of these creepy sounds that have allegedly been heard all over the world since last year. Does anyone know anything about this? Or is this all an elaborate hoax publicity stunt for Cloverfield 2 or something?

Here is one of the many links anyhow:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hl2Q560V5P0

So is this bolleaux or has anyone heard of this alleged phenomenon? Or better still has anyone heard it?

As an aside, whilst walking in the Lake District in the 1980's, I always used to hear occasional 'booms' but thought nothing of it, presuming they were RAF jets but no I am older, I realise that this would not be the case.

Can't find the other thread mentioned above, so I'll post it here.
Recently recorded sounds.

Strange sounds recorded in Libya.

Strange sounds in Texas, USA.

Edit: Netherlands in the beginning of December.

Has anyone been near a Hawker Hunter that was traveling fast, that
noise sounds very much like the noise made by the gun ports a sort
of organ pipe effect.

I never understood why, if these sounds are so bizarre, why multiple people are not recording them at the same time.
I'm convinced they are all normal sounds (maybe exaggerated due to atmospheric conditions) or very easily constructed hoaxes for YouTube hits.

They do all sound the same, it seems. Odd that there is so much similarity between all of them.

Most of the documented recurring incidents I've seen fall into 2 general categories:

- Short-duration high-pitched grating "screech" sounds and ...
- Lower-pitched resonating sounds of varying duration that resemble giant horns.

I tried to use Soundhound and Shazam on Android to see if it recognized the sounds from somewhere. No results.

I wonder if the 2011 Kevin Smith film Red State has been an influence on these videos? It has a memorable "loud noises!" ending (without spoiling it).

Intriguing. Today I stumbled upon a (for me) unknown musical instrument called a "mega marvin". I strongly-feel this (non-synthetic) aetheral sound may be the source of at least some of the scary sounds in these infamous disturbing Youtube videos....

Many versions shown to be hoaxes were linked to the sound effects from Red State and War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise version). Easy to rip sound effects and play them in the background.

I wrote back in 2015:
Case 0 was a video taken in Kiev, Ukraine in August 2011. Mechanical-type noises were heard in an urban area. The video is distinct in that the noise is clearly heard in addition to the normal neighborhood noises in the background. Faking did not seem obvious. This was linked to the movie Red State screening at film festivals in Europe after a March US release. The same Kiev sound was copied to a video of people in the woods of Conklin, Alberta, Canada. Clearly hoaxed, the media passed it off as another strange event. Even an admitted hoax did no good to slow the belief: Edmonton sky noises video an admitted hoax.

Strange sounds supposedly recorded on video during a thunderstorm. May not necessarily be because of the thunderstorm.
A commentator on FB says it was the university which was bleeding steam.

YT version:

Another one who recorded it:

And a third one:

Re: Edmonton, there seems to be a whine in that city widely reported (it's in the current FT), some think it's wind making a noise through unfinished building work. Anyone know if it's still being heard? If not, the now-completed building might explain it.

Yes, that seems to be the one cited in FT. Maybe no further news means it's stopped? Do we have any Edmonton posters in the know?

Sorry if this has been posted before and is it in the right section.

Post moved to this compendium thread.

Those resemble the mystery sounds that were attributed to someone copying the tripod audio from the most recent War of the Worlds movie.

North Seattle and the Foghorns from Nowhere

The smoke mingled with the fog in the mornings, silencing the neighborhood. That's when she heard the foghorn.
The sound blared repeatedly. It didn't sound close from up on the crest of Maple Leaf, the third-highest point in Seattle, Raymond said, but it didn't sound far away either. The sound reminded Raymond of the 30 years she spent in Vancouver, British Columbia. But she'd been close to the port then. Maple Leaf wasn't anywhere near the water.

It's possible this is another case of sound ducting under a temperature inversion (the same one keeping the smoke trapped at the surface).

Interesting article on Alaskan metallic din:
News story

More in depth than the usual internet news report, with quotes from Anchorage residents who hear it: "like rusty machinery". Maybe it's actual rusty machinery?

Not saying it's something paranormal, but if it's for real and with a natural explanation, why won't those responsible for the sounds come forward?

Might be armoured polar bears.

quotes from Anchorage residents who hear it

"The Ice was here, the Ice was there,
The Ice was all around:
It crack'd and growl'd, and roar'd and howl'd—
Like noises in a swound!"

From The Ancient Marriner.

"From Esthwaite’s neighbouring lake the splitting ice,
While it sank down towards the water, sent
Among the meadows and the hills its long
And dismal yellings, like the noise of wolves
When they are howling round the Bothnic Main."

Wordsworth, The Prelude, Book One. :thought:

The modern world is a VERY noisy place. It's rare to find a definitive source for a strange noise.

Side story: Yesterday at about 10AM, I hear a series of bangs that were quite far away. Could have been fireworks or a large magazine rifle. But it was unusual. So I turned on the police scanner app and, sure enough, someone had reported it as "shots" about a mile away from me. I tried to hear their conclusion when they investigated but no followup. About 15 minutes later, I heard the same sound again. No more info. I'll never know what it was but I wasn't imagining it.

Strange sounds in Brooklyn Heights

Search for mysterious noise in Brooklyn Heights turns into massive crowdsourced investigation

December 6, 2021 Mary Frost

The noise started at the beginning of November.
It was described by residents of north Brooklyn Heights as a mechanical chirp or a high-pitched, repeating whirr. Some thought it was a car alarm; others, a motor noise. It had a strange way of seeming to move around the neighborhood depending on where you stood.
Whatever it was, as it continued nonstop for days, and then weeks, it slowly drove people crazy.

Thunder will bounce around from cloud to ground and create a very long, intense rumble under the right conditions.
