Strangeness At Whitby

As in Chester, where there are always Roman legionaries wandering around. Half of them could be ghosts. You'd never know.
And vikings at pedestrian crossings in York are so common they don't get a second glance. My late friend (a re-enactor of various periods including the 18thC) often wore her cloak walking around town as it was warmer and more convenient than a coat. She never got a reaction, at all.

Has anyone who lives in/near York ever seen that man in perfect 1940s' clothing, walking or cycling around town? I did a second take the first time I saw him go past. He was actually more shocking than the vikings.

I've not seen 1940's man, but the purple guy has given me a start once or twice.

There used to be a purple man in San Francisco, too. And several women in white with white make-up. Monochromatic clothes, an interesting obsession.

1940's guy sounds impressive.
