Quake42 said:A couple of incidents over the last few days:
- Westfield shopping centre (next to the Olympic Park) evacuated after a boomb scare
- Major terror alert near Luton airport - including, apparently, scrambling of military helicopters - after two individuals were spotted under the flight path with a range finder and ran off when challenged.
Very little media attention given to either, especially the second, which featured solely on Twitter and local websites until belatedly picked up by the Express this morning.
Coupled with the odd editorial decisions by BBC and ITV not to mention the recent London beheading in their nightly news bulletins, and an apparent media blackout on what seems to have been a big EDL march in Rotherham over the weekend, I'm wondering whether media organisations have been asked to play down stories which are likely to increase panic and/or tensions. Thoughts?
Really strange that the Luton Airport one is being downplayed. Maybe the security forces are following "a definite line of enquiry" and don't want to scare off the perpetrators.
Alternatively they may know that it was only plane spotters.
The Sheffield Telegraph say hundreds marched on the demo you mentioned. A previous march in May had 500 on it according to the Guardian but little MSM coverage in either case.
Not wanting to give them the oxygen of publicity? The lack of coverage seems to be a deliberate choice.
