We still haven't read the Shepherd's Crown in our house. My elder daughter said if we don't, we'll always have a new Discworld novel to look forward to
^^Yep, same here^^

I enjoyed the documentary and I was prepared to hate it. It was odd to find that he lived in Forty Green as a child, I've been through the place hundreds of times on bike/car/ foot, used to be on my way to work and a fair bit of socialising.

Shed a tear myself when Neil Gaiman choked up.

Troll Bridge is coming!

TROLL BRIDGE is now submitting to film festivals worldwide. An old barbarian and his talking horse, embark on a suicidal quest to battle a bridge troll. 15 years in the making TROLL BRIDGE is an ambitious odyssey of work in bringing Terry Pratchett’s Discworld to cinematic life.

I'm all in favour and I'll watch it, but why choose Troll Bridge? There are far richer and more interesting Discworld Stories in my view.

Is it budgetary?

It's the only Discworld book I've not read...

I've never heard of that book
At the moment I am reading Thief of Time and loving it, but I do have a fondness for Terry's and Neil's book Good Omens

And I have the book The Long Utopia to read, is it any good?

Have you read The Long Earth and the others in the series? If not, I'd follow the order of publication, myself. I quite enjoyed them, but I don't know that they are essential reading.

No, I just saw Terry's name and grabbed it, wasn't till I saw your post just now that I learned there might be others

Good Omens trailer:

Might be OK, I liked the book but it was a bit smug... looks like they have the tone right, for better or worse. Mind you, we've had about a billion end of the world scenarios since it was published, in fiction and real life, so I wonder if there's an appetite for more? Who am I kidding, we can't get enough of it still.

I'll watch that, but I wish they hadn't played Queen over it.

Good Omens
plays with juxtapositions of scale, and the film needs to reflect that: Götterdämmerung brought down to earth and personalised with a lost biscuit or something. I know it's a 'teaser', but I hope they don't lose the dual focus and make it into just another end-of-the-world jaunt.

On the plus side, when is Michael Sheen not good? He's a thinking man's Bandyflop Cummerflush.

The Long Earth is very good - it segues neatly from 'look we can jump dimensions' into 'how people will behave in those circumstances'. Recommend.

Quite. But liked David Tennant in the role.

Yes
He's a thinking man's Bandyflop Cummerflush.
:rofl2:

I had always thought the best actor for Crowley would be Jonathan Cake. He's got the look for it...

Agree and agree.

I found the book pretty annoying, but readable. This adaptation does have pretty much the same look I pictured when reading it and I'll be sure to watch it sometime.

I assume it's because of the joke in the book about every CD left in a car for over a fortnight turns into the Best of Queen.

Yes, I guess so.

But then I would have preferred that as an unspoken joke: the radio comes on an inopportune moments etc.

I will be watching that, i loved the book, in fact, I have read it so many times its a tad dog eared. Thank you GNC x

I've bought several copies of Good Omens over the years, as they were pretty much falling apart after several million reads...

Brief Good Omens update: on Mark Kermode's podcast this week, he interviewed David Arnold who's composing the music, and they revealed… Mark is playing the theme tune on harmonica! Apart from that, it goes through different time periods, past, present and future, and Heaven and Hell for good measure. They said it'll be on the BBC in the second half of the year (Arnold seemed to think it was ideal for Sunday nights) and on Amazon, um, not very sure, maybe around the same time.

That's lovely Ma'am :)

Bendybum Candycrush will, apparently, be in Good Omens. He voices Satan.

Tennant will have to be really good to displace Peter Serafinowicz in my mind.

Watched the first episode of Good Omens, didn't have sky high hopes I must admit, but it was surprisingly enjoyable and very Douglas Adams-y if he had been wrapped up in religious apocalypses rather than intergalactic ones. Nicely cast, I laughed a few times, yes, I think I'll watch the rest. Is that Brian May playing the end theme? Or a good impersonator? Good in-joke, whichever.

Help needed here, did you pay for it or did you get it free if you signed up for prime? I dont want to sign up for Prime, I want to pay for it, but i cant find where I do that
