Here's a newish YouTube video by Benn Jordan on the hum.
He's going with underground pipes.

Since the early 1960's, an increasing number of people have been hearing (and feeling) a sound causing everything from annoyance to psychosis to death. We have a deeply objective look at what could be causing it.

That was interesting, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would - in fact, by about 8 minutes in I realized I was completely suckered in. I thought it was well done, it felt well researched and on the face of it, I agree that it's probably down to several (probably quite common) things.

Not a hum but..

Mystery high-pitched sound is plaguing town and no one knows where it’s coming from

A small Derbyshire town is being plagued by a mystery high-pitched noise so loud a council has been called in to investigate.

The noise can be heard around the clock and some think it might be from a new industrial estate, others think it might be wind turbines.

Locals first started reporting the noise on Facebook on Friday, and it has continued ever since.
Ruth Tinkler posted on Spondon Community Group: ‘Does anyone actually know what the high-pitched buzzing noise is? I hear it most mornings. So annoying.’

Environment teams at Derby City Council have been called in to see if they can find the source.

A post on Spondon Councillors Facebook page reads: ‘We are investigating a noise issue that a few residents have been in touch with…

‘However, we have to date not been able to identify where it is coming from. It is a high-pitched noise that can be heard in the early morning and yesterday it was heard from the majority of the day.

‘Residents who live near the south of Spondon can hear it most and even residents in Borrowash have reported it.

‘It does sound like it could be coming from the commercial park or the Smart Parc. If anyone has any information that could help us, that would be fantastic.’
