I'm trying to find a story that I would post here if I hadn't already, but I think it might have been posted on the ye olde Wunderkabinett.
The story as I remember it is of a single man who was in or around the Barbary Coast area of San Francisco (I think). For some reason, perhaps due to his having money or gold, an outrageous number of thugs, some armed, came after him and tried to rob & kill him. They all failed, and he continued on his way having beaten them all back either with or without weapons. My memory is that this event would have been in the early 1800's.
I didn't find the story initially either. My brother did come across it while we were watching repeats of the old Barbary Coast TV show, which is why the two are linked in my mind. But while we both remember reading about it at the time, we can't find anything about it now.
Does this story twinge anybody's memories as to the individual or the story?
