The Eachy Of Bassenthwaite

This isn't something I'd heard of before and no search results have brought it up.

An eachy is a name given to a species of lake monster from a variety of locations in Northern England and Scotland. An eachy is typically a large humanoid being of gruesome and slimy appearance seen to occasionally emerge from the lake. An eachy was reported from Windermere in 1873 and Bassenthwaite Lake as late as 1973 when it was supposedly photographed twice.[1] A scientific expedition was launched to find the mystery creature when, in September 1961, three atomic scientists conducted an underwater exploration of the lake. However, they did not find the 13-foot-long (4.0 m), triple-humped, python-headed creature that had recently been sighted.

The first link on that page is no longer working but the second goes to a newspaper report of the 1961 scientific exploration.

And a bit of further googling came up with two blog sites which each show differing photographs presumably taken in 1973 by a Mr Staveness/Stavenglass. They are in keeping with the kind of quality you would expect and I won't post them here as there is some question in the comments about photo ownership, you can see them at the links below. Also, I note that the expedition predated the 1973 sighting by over a decade so I wonder what prompted that.

There's something about the way the creature holds itself in the water in those linked photos that makes me think of the Black Throated Diver or the Great Northern Diver.
