(This post / discussion spun off from the Alien Abductions thread.)

There were movies about abductions before the Hill and Boas cases; This Island Earth for instance.
--------
The 1951 Fred Reagan abduction sounds fascinating, and might have inspired the film. Beamed out of his plane, like in 1955's This Island Earth, and supposedly cured of cancer by metallic asparagus aliens. He died anyway.

The Fred Reagan incident allegedly occurred in 1951, and Reagan allegedly died the following year (1952).

To the extent his story was subsequently documented (and disseminated) it was based on a newspaper clipping supposedly dating back to 1952 and Reagan's death.

It seems that neither this clipping nor any other contemporary documentation of Reagan's story has ever been located.

This story is often referred to as "Georgia Stalks", because it happened in Georgia and Reagan described the aliens he encountered as resembling large stalks of asparagus.

Here's a summary of the Reagan story excerpted from pages 57 - 58 of:

The Reagan story traces back to the May 1953 issue of ACTION magazine - a postwar men's pulp adventure magazine that was apparently published only in 1953.
