So anybody who has driven the M6 up in Cheshire has probably seen this at some point. A green Motorway bridge with "The Pies The Pies" written on it. I understand that it's one of several bridges in the Northwest which have at some time or other had something similar daubed upon them.

"Vote Pie" "Pies this your time" and such.

I remember hearing a few years back that a Liverpool based band claimed to be responsible for these. But I've never been able to to find anybody who has been able to unequivocally prove as to whether this is an elaborate Urban Legend, or somebody trying to leap on an established Urban Myth or something.

I seem to remember there being mention of that bridge on an old Gomez B-side. So it must have been up there for quite some time.

Any others know anything more about this?

Nope, but there was an old brick railway bridge on the A40 on the way to Oxford which in big white letters on the east side had "Plank is God" and on the west side "First offense Lord".

No, but M Khan is bent.

Reminds me a bit of the 'Give peas a chance' graffiti on the M25:

No, but M Khan is bent.

Heh. The bridge on the North Circular Road...

Someone here estimated that, bearing in mind it was there for more than 10 years, the amount of vehicles passing under it & average amount of passengers contained, it would have been seen by around 2,956,500,000 people, roughly five times the population of Europe...

Whatever it was that persuaded the council finally to paint over 'M. KAHN IS BENT', The Mary Whitehouse Experience is prepared to offer a large sum of money to any person or persons prepared to go back to the bridge, under cover of darkness, and paint on it the words 'M. KAHN IS STILL BENT'.

There's also a note from someone:

While studying criminal law, I think I found the answer to M khan being bent:-

DPP v Camplin [1978] A.C. 705 (House of Lords)
Lord Diplock:

"Camplin, who was 15 years of age, killed a middle-aged Pakistani, Mohammed Lal Khan, by splitting his skull with a chapati pan...At the time the two of them were alone together in Khan's flat...According to the story that he had told...Khan had buggered him in spite of his resistance and had then laughed at him. Whereupon Camplin had lost his self-control and attacked Khan fatally with the chapati pan..."

Not so much M Khan is still bent, as M Khan is dead, methinks.

Despite the number of people who saw it, there doesn't seem to be one image of it on the net.

That estimation will be way over. If I commute to work and back under that bridge each weekday for a year that totals around 500 journeys. But I'm still only one person.

That could be read as M KHAN IS BENTOK - Bentok being either a Malay word for a curved ceremonial blade (maybe M Khan was a Russian mole and the graffiti was the last desperate act of an MI5 agent before being pushed in front of a train), or an alternative name for the card game Bartok (maybe he was a local legend in shady back-rooms and basement casinos).

Why yes, I am bored stiff this evening.

That graffiti would only have been seen by train drivers. It's not the one of legend which was on a bridge over the road and simply stated 'M khan is bent' with no OK.
Yeah, it was the only one I could find.

For years in Bath there were various daubings of 'Hutton is a Twat' on various walls. Know idea who, what or why, and haven't seen it for years. Maybe it'll come back at some point...

I remember that! Wasn't one opposite the Odeon, and another by where Oddbins used to be?

Just noticed I wrote 'know idea' rather than 'no idea' - too much wine I guess. I remember the 'Hutton is a Twat graffiti from the Brougham Hayes area.

I saw "Pies: Financial Reset" written on a bridge on the M58 motorway near Liverpool earlier today. I also thought a local band had taken responsibility for it, as something along these lines has been written on this particular bridge for years.

There was a bridge in High Wycombe for a long time with "The Queen Mother Is Hip" painted on it. She had recently had a hip replacement op so it was comical and relevant.

Where was that then? I don't recall seeing it...

The railway bridge coming down from Micklefield onto London Road. Just before/after Kwik Fit depending on your direction of travel.

I have a vague memory of a grainy B&W photo of it in the Mary Whitehouse Experience Encyclopedia. I don't have my copy available though. Does anyone visit second-hand bookshops regularly?
