The Risks Of E-Cigarettes & Vaping

The War on Drugs Is Coming for Vapes, and It's Not Going to End Well

"Making things illegal tends to make them more dangerous."

"But experts and legal vaping advocates VICE spoke to pointed out that supply-side intervention never worked in the war on drugs. That made it all the more bizarre that it might become the policy weapon of choice now, in 2019. In fact, experts and legal vaping advocates said, bans at the federal or state or local level could just serve to worsen the problem they're trying to prevent by encouraging the kind of at-home or illicit experimentation that may have helped bring about the recent spike of vape-linked illnesses in the first place."

"Prohibition is just a bad idea," said Leo Beletsky, a professor of law and health sciences at Northeastern University, later adding, "Enacting sweeping bans on e-cigs risks throwing the baby out with the bathwater by pushing users toward traditional cigarettes and illicit markets for e-cigs. All of this plays into the hands of traditional tobacco companies and is likely to create more public-health harm, not less."

"Right now, there's no 'black market' in vaping products in America,................."

Unfortunately the damage is already done - the war may already be lost - The think
tank devils, possibly combined with the 150 million of the billionaire self appointed
czar of public health, who may have already paid enough medical personal and news media to perpetrate the big lie - They have poisoned the minds of much of the American public against vapes - Actually making them look more dangerous
than good old fashioned lit tobacco cigarettes - Again, with no cause and effect,
no real disease or genuine health issue.

This is a brilliant and demonic strategy which, if you were listening to the news in
the US, began with the exclamations a year or two ago that there was a 'run away epidemic' of underage use, addiction, and then temptation to use regular cigarettes among the young and, according to them, underage youth. - But they did admit that use of regular cigarettes had been going down in this high school age group.
But they still had no disease, no proof, or indication that vaping was harmful
except that it was admitted that nicotine was addictive.

And now what's going to happen? - Will they be able to preach the modern day
temperance message to this youth group, and make it succeed? I doubt it. They
failed with alcohol, failed with marijuana {and many other drugs} and then wonder
why the suicide rate is so high among this age demographic, even as they glorify it with a TV series.

Maybe I'm missing the point - Maybe the conspiracy nuts are right - Maybe the
New World Order is real and has decided, according to some theories. that they
need to reduce the world population to make it more controllable.
And what better way of doing this then to stop the so called vaping epidemic,
which according to a documentary I watched could save up to one billion lives
a year from death from cigarettes.

So the fix is in, use fake news and a witch hunt {as Trump would call it}, to depress
the population, cause states {Oregon is the latest} to drastically limit vape use
- And eventually outlaw vape use entirely, making even the possession of a vape
device a felony - Just like India has already done.

I'm curious - Are they trying this in the UK, where professional health agencies
have already declared vaping safer than cigarettes, in fact much safer
- Is there a fake disease going on over there?

I leave you with just two thoughts - 1. They now say 20 people have died and over
one thousand have gotten sick from vaping without the solid establishment of a disease or provable cause and effect - Though some of them blame illegal, bootlegged, products in much of the cases - So why are they trying to outlaw the legal regulated vapes ???? and
2. Twenty people dead and one thousand ill might sound
like a large number; But on any one day how many people who have eaten
Broccoli get sick and how many die? - but you say what does that have to do with
disease and death - Nothing you say - well with no provable cause and effect,
I say the same thing about this mysterious lung disease - It may only be casually,
if at all, related to vaping nicotine vape products.

REMEMBER "CRIME DOES NOT PAY - AS WELL AS POLITICS"!!!

So the cat is out of the bag - Trump trumps the flavored e cigarette, ban it all fanatics {tobacco prohibitionist who can't get over the wars they lost with alcohol
and marijuana}, and comes up with a compromise that, if nothing else, is reasonable.

The USA's FDA will ban flavored cartridge type e cigs, supposedly favored by under
age users, and still allow the somewhat more complicated to use, e cig tank systems
that the vapor must fill themselves.

I'm more worried about exploding e-cigs!

Did Bloomberg really spend $150 million yo destroy the vaping industry?!

The deaths continue to mount.

The official number of people who have died after suffering from lung injuries linked to the use of vape pens and e-cigarettes has risen to 64.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the deaths have been confirmed in 28 states and the District of Columbia as of Feb. 4. Four of those deaths occurred in the last three weeks, and more deaths are currently under investigation.

A total of 2,758 hospitalizations have been reported to the CDC from across all 50 states, and D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The federal agency now refers to these injuries as EVALI (e-cigarette, or vaping, product use-associated lung injury).

Though the death toll has risen to more than five dozen, the CDC says that emergency hospital visits for vaping-related illnesses are declining since they peaked in September. However, some researchers say they continue to see a steady flow of patients coming in with lung injuries after vaping.

The problem with such statistics is that unless you know what the user was vaping, the results are meaningless. They could have put any old rubbish in the pipe. I seriously doubt the culprit is the water vapour which we inhale constantly.

You might just as well have statistics on the number of people who die from eating.

I still think they are hiding figures for the number of people killed by exploding ecigs.

Outbreak of lung disease not due to vaping nicotine

And please ask yourself, and check the statistics, on the number of people dying every day from lit tobacco products, especially cigarettes.

India outlawed all vaping and devices - an insanity that borders on genocide
when you consider that India has a very very high death rate caused by lung cancer
caused by traditional cigarette smoking.

Once again, as with prohibition {the outlawing of alcohol in the United States in the
early part of the 20th century] - the 'do gooder'' control freaks' cause more harm
than what they are trying to control.

Maybe there aught to be a law that says no 'do gooder' can give their opinion unless they can prove they are really doing any good ?!?!

I still think they are hiding figures for the number of people killed by exploding ecigs.

Going by anecdotal evidence after almost 7 years vaping, and having been around vaping groups online and IRL, my answer is that it seems to be very rare. Dodgy charger incidents seem to be the main culprit and also occur with any Li-ion battery powered device (cf., phone chargers et al).

I might have published this before - But in case you didn't see it - And if you can get the full documentary it is fascinating.

"A Billion Lives' Documentary Suggests There's a Conspiracy Against Vaping

To surmise the documentary makes the case that switching to vaping instead of traditional lit cigarettes could save one billion lives a year world wide.

The company behind vaping is being sued for advertising on kids' TV and websites:
Lawsuit news

I don't know about a conspiracy against them, but they're up to some unscrupulous shit right there themselves.

Heart breaking news.

Switching from smoking to vaping may not help with cardiovascular health.

Researchers performed tests on the vascular systems of more than 400 healthy adults aged 21 to 45. Study participants who use cigarettes, e-cigarettes or both had stiffer arteries than those who did not smoke or vape, the researchers report online April 29 in the Journal of the American Heart Association.

That stiffness can damage small blood vessels and strain the heart, both of which can contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease, says Jessica Fetterman, a vascular biologist at Boston University School of Medicine.

Fetterman and colleagues also collected participant samples of cells lining the blood vessels, and exposed those cells to a fluorescent dye that detects nitric oxide, a molecule that dilates blood vessels and helps stop blood from clotting. Cells taken from smokers and vapers produced less nitric oxide than cells from participants who did not smoke or vape, a sign that smokers’ and vapers’ blood vessels may not be functioning normally.

Want to bring up the so called 'vaping pandemic' again. ?

I think now that they {we] have a real pandemic - maybe we should leave the vaping
threat {you know its any tobacco product that 'they' are against} to the world rest
- Probably better off staying home and vaping then going out into the virus carrying
population, right?

Can't catch Covid 19 from vaping - BUT now that you bring the subject up,
Isn't it strange that a respiratory illness affecting the lungs and not clearly linked
to a cause, should appear just before the Coronavirus pandemic?
- See where I'm going with this? - Maybe Covid 19, or a variation was around
months earlier than detected - And just maybe it had something to do with
the so called disease linked to vaping? - And don't many vaping products come
from China? - And didn't Covid 19 begin in China?

And aren't the breathing problems linked to Covid 19 similar to what was going
on with the vaping breathing problems of those who were effected?

New survey research results indicate vaping teens and young adults are 5 to 7 times more likely to become infected with COVID-19.
Vaping linked with much higher risk of getting COVID-19

Teen and young adult vapers were up to 7 times more likely to get COVID-19, compared with non-vapers, the study found.

The researchers analyzed information from more than 4,300 U.S. teens and young adults, ages 13 to 24, who completed an online survey in early May, according to the study, published Tuesday (Aug. 11) in the Journal of Adolescent Health. Participants answered questions about their cigarette and e-cigarette use, as well as whether they had experienced symptoms of COVID-19, undergone testing or were diagnosed with the disease from a positive test.

Among those tested for COVID-19, e-cigarette users were five times more likely to be diagnosed with COVID-19, and those who used both e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes ("dual users") were seven times more likely to be diagnosed with COVID-19, compared with those who did not use e-cigarettes or traditional cigarettes.

In addition, dual users were nearly five times more likely to report experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of the survey, regardless of whether they were tested, compared with non-users. ...

However, the study only found an association between vaping and COVID-19 infection, and cannot prove that vaping led to the illness. ...

Hmm I wonder, could that be a hand to mouth thing? You touch things. You touch your vape. You stick your vape in your mouth.

I also wondered where the funding for the research was coming from (always an interesting point) but part of it was actually the Food and Drug Administration Center for Tobacco Products, so you'd imagine they'd want to hear Smoking Is Bad but perhaps not that Vaping is Bad. Although, in America, perhaps vaping is looked upon differently to in the UK? The UK line (going by the info on the govt websites) is very much in favour of people giving up fags for vaping.

Yes - the hand-to-mouth / contact transmission factor was one of the things the researchers suggested as a possible explanation for higher infection rates associated with vaping.

Newly presented research has, for the first time, demonstrated that chemicals in vaping fluids combine to produce new compounds that are more toxic than the stable forms of the fluids' original constituents. These vaping-generated secondary compounds were then demonstrated to foster the sorts of symptoms associated with the recent wave of vaping-related illness.
Toxic Warning: Chemicals in E-cigarettes Mix Together to Form New, Unexpectedly Toxic Compounds

Flavorings combine with solvents in e-cigarettes to produce new toxic chemicals that irritate the airways, triggering reactions that can lead to breathing and heart and blood vessel problems, according to new research presented at the ‘virtual’ European Respiratory Society International Congress. ...

Sven-Eric Jordt, associate professor of anesthesiology, pharmacology, and cancer biology at Duke University School of Medicine (North Carolina, USA) told the meeting that manufacturers claim that e-cigarettes are safe as they vaporize a defined set of chemicals that are chemically stable.

“Our co-author and analytical chemist Dr. Hanno Erythropel and colleagues at Yale University found new chemicals in e-liquids and revealed that they are formed when components are mixed by manufacturers. We became concerned about the high levels of these new compounds that had not been studied in the past, and decided to conduct toxicological tests,” said Prof Jordt.

In lab experiments, the researchers looked at what happened when cells that line the bronchi (the main airways from the trachea to the lungs) were exposed to flavoring chemicals ... They also looked at the effect of the new chemicals that formed as a result of mixing the flavoring chemicals with the solvents propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), which are the main solvents in e-cigarette liquids. ...

“The bronchi are exposed to e-cigarette vapor when the user inhales them into the lungs,” said Prof Jordt. “We consistently observed that the new chemicals formed from the flavors and e-liquid solvents were more toxic than either of their parent compounds. The new chemicals derived from benzaldehyde and cinnamaldehyde were more toxic than the vanillin-derived compounds.”

The new chemicals also activated sensory irritant receptors in nerve endings in the bronchi called TRPV1 and TRPA1, which are responsible for a range of inflammatory responses. ...

Prof Jordt said: “Activation of sensory irritant receptors can increase the heart rate and, in predisposed people, can lead to an irregular heartbeat and higher blood pressure. It can also increase secretions in the nasal passages and throughout the lungs and airways, leading to coughing and breathing difficulties.”

The researchers showed for the first time that even low concentrations of the newly-formed chemicals caused the cells lining the bronchi to die. ...

Newly published research indicates vaping can double the risk of erectile dysfunction in men - even among those with no history of cardiovascular problems known to contribute to ED.
Vaping could more than double erectile dysfunction risk for some men

Vaping can be tough on the lungs, but new research warns of another possible danger to men: It may more than double the risk for erectile dysfunction.

After tracking erectile dysfunction risk among nearly 25,000 men aged 20 and older, investigators found that even vapers with no history of heart disease or other health issues typically associated with impotence saw their risk shoot up more than twofold. ...

The finding suggests that while electronic cigarettes may offer some users a helpful pathway towards kicking a cigarette habit, there are potential downsides. ...

Inhaling the smoke from these fires is not advisable.

A fire that ripped through a family home was started by an e-cigarette charger that was left plugged in.

Graham Nicholls and one of his two sons were asleep in their house in Sutterton, Lincolnshire, when the fire broke out. It caused thousands of pounds of damage and Mr Nicholls urged people not to leave devices charging while they were asleep or out of the house.

He said it was not "worth the risk for the devastation it can cause".

The dangers of vapes.

A vape left on charge started a blaze in a bedroom causing severe damage, a fire service has said.

Firefighters were called to Shardelow Avenue, Chelmsford, Essex, at 09:42 BST on Thursday, when residents returned to see smoke billowing out of upstairs windows. When crews arrived at the house a bedroom on the third floor was on fire, said Essex County Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus extinguished the flames.

"The fire was caused by a vape left on charge", the service said.

Nick Singleton, station manager, said: "Our advice when you discover a fire in your home is always to get out of the house, stay out and call the fire service. If you're charging any electrical device, we recommend you stay in the room while charging."
