The Twin Militia Leader Children

OK, for some reason I remembered (or half-remembered) these kids today. They were featured a few times in the FT about 10-20 years ago, and were two brothers (possibly twins) who led a militia army in South East Asia. They smoked cigars, I think. People were terrified of them because of their ruthless reputation, but I don't think it ended well for either, one or both might have been killed. I know it's not much to go on, but does anyone know who I'm on about or what happened to them?

Many thanks, everyone! Seems like they weren't murdered (where did I get that from?) but they did become unemployed alcoholics, which isn't a whole lot better, but at least they're not dead. Maybe they are invincible after all?
