Not disrespecting the photographic skills of either of the posters who've put up deer shots on this page

but

it goes to show how difficult it is to get a good pic of something that happens suddenly, unexpectedly. Pause for thought next time we're looking at a blurry lake monster or bigfoot.
Absolutely. I've lost the count of the times just on here that people have tried to argue that, now everyone carries a decent camera around with them everywhere they go, there ought to be more pictures of anomalous phenomena, and thus that the absence of same is evidence of absence of the phenomena. Personally, I doubt there is such a linear relationship.

I thought when i first seen the picture of the deer "if that was an ABC nobody would believe me" if the picture of a known species can be so rubbish if you are taken unaware, what about an unknown animal that could rip your throat out?

That feeling when... you go to cast your vote in the euro elections and as you make your cross the writing surfacte falls away in slow motion followed by the back and the sides, followed by the surface-back-and-sides of the booth to each side and so on until all 7 booths are flat on the floor... and you are the only human within 2 metres of them....

And when you try to apologise to the clerks and officials they say "please, put your folded ballot through the slot my colleague is pointing at and then GO AWAY while we rebuild!"

And the worst bit?

They know my name and exactly where I live :rollingw:

I was walking back to aviemore, just as the sun was beginning to set, when I noticed movement, I froze, and seen some deer!

My first reaction was pure joy at seeing a wild creature close up, my second was too think I was glad max wasn't about, I have nothing against anybody shooting deer, but not when I am watching them.
Sorry about the picture quality, it was all over so fast View attachment 17587
I reckon that's the legendary Aviemore were-rabbit. You were lucky to get out of there alive.

I bought a dehumidifier from B&M. Rather than dehumidifying my flat it released acrid smoke and became incredibly hot.

Luckily they gave me a refund with no quibbling.

Also I bought a set of poster stickers online. Their USP was that they would not leave any marks or residue on the wall. This was true. Unfortunately they completely failed to keep the poster attached to the wall. I went through a pack of 20 trying to attach a single poster.

Why can't stuff just work?

Next time you go to the Zoo remind me to tell you where to spot deer on the way.
(Also another fabled wild animal, the Black Rabbits of Crewe Station.)

One of my main issues with age verification systems becoming more widespread is that it is impossible for me to legally prove I am over 18.

I am not planning to leave the country so I do not have a passport. I do not drive so I have no driver's licence. I have a very basic Current bank account which does not include a credit card.

I do have an official copy of my birth certificate but this seems to count for nothing. I also have a very battered copy of my National Insurance card, but again this seems to count for nothing.

If I am unable to access porn this is not the end of the world. I can always just use my imagination. Or a VPN.

If I can't order alcohol online, that's fine. My local newsagent is quite happy to sell me revolting cider and overpriced spirits made by brands I have never heard of.

But if I need age ID to access certain government services (for example Universal Credit which from what I've read is requiring photo ID) or in order to buy a set of screwdrivers or whatever, I don't know how I can overcome that.

Nor am I happy giving proof of my identity to third party private organisations who may or may not have adequate security provisions in place and may or may not sell on my details to other organisations (as in the Facebook Cambridge Analytical scandal.)

All rather worrying.

Seems you are a kindred spirit...

Was trying to set up an account with one of the major online retailers.

They wanted proof of ID, requesting that I scan and upload one of the following - a copy of:

- valid passport
- valid drivers licence
- national ID card
- firearms certificate

My passport has just expired, I don't drive and never have and the last two are non-starters.

It's like... how can I prove my existence...

Congratulations, lads. You win ..

A REAL EXISTENCE FREE OF ILLOGICAL BUREAUCRATIC INTERFEEEEEEREEEEEENCE!!
Whinge...this one x infinity.

Was also faced with a problem from another online retailer - Currys.

Simply enter details of your last electricity bill to verify name and address.

Duly fetched Scottish Power statement and typed in account number as requested...

...except that it doesn't equate.

The online form is expecting a much longer account number and won't accept my own.

E-mailed customer support and consequently advised that the online form is designed for applicants from England and Wales only...

Apparently, from what I can see in your list of options, all you need to do is legally buy a gun! WTF?
