Does anything good ever happen in a trailer park?

Father tells police he bit off his son's thumb
April 21, 2002 Posted: 5:42 PM EDT (2142 GMT)

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- A man who told police he bit off his 2-year-old son's thumb, and apparently held it in his mouth for about six hours, was arrested for child abuse and aggravated assault, authorities said Sunday.

Police responding to a 911 call Saturday night found Raymond Jones running on a street naked, said police Sgt. Bill Knight.

Jones, 39, told detectives he had taken several hits of the hallucinogen PCP and had swallowed his son's thumb because he wanted to mix their DNA, Knight said.

However, Jones apparently had the thumb in his mouth rather than swallowing it, and coughed it out while he was being interviewed by police.

The child was found alone, several blocks away at the entrance of the trailer park where they lived.

Doctors were not able to reattach the thumb.

Is that covered by Miranda? "Anything that comes out of your mouth may be used in evidence..."

Trailer parks are weirdness magnets. A lot of the Mothman witnesses lived in trailer parks.

Bill Hicks said that "..there's only actually two levels of drunkeness. Or three if you live in a trailer park."

And there's photographic evidence here

Man tries to make son a Manchurian Candiddate

They f*ck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were f*cked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

Anyway I thought that was apt - it seems to be a common theme emerging so I thought I'd make a thread on it.

This is pretty monsterous:

Murder: A chilling how-to

BY KATHIE O. WARCO, Staff writer

[email protected]

Chartiers Township police Chief James Horvath said he couldn't believe what he was hearing: an audio recording of a man encouraging his 10-year-old stepson to kill his 4-year-old brother.

David Winniewicz, 36, of 130 Poplar Court, Houston, was arrested Wednesday on charges including criminal solicitation to commit homicide for making the audiotape and playing it as the 10-year-old slept, in an apparent attempt to plant a subliminal message in the boy's mind.

"It sent chills down my spine," Horvath said.

Township police were given the tape earlier this month after Winniewicz's wife, Nancy, found it in a file drawer. She made a copy of the tape so her husband would not find it missing and become upset, police said. She gave the copy to police.

"In the tape, he repeatedly tells his stepson to kill his brother," Horvath said. "And he gives him instructions on how to do it."

In the tape, Winniewicz allegedly tells the older boy to put a pillow over his brother's face or put his hands around the younger boy's neck.

Police declined to say why Winniewicz wanted his 4-year-old son dead.

Winniewicz admitted to police that he made the tape and then played it in late October as the 10-year-old was falling asleep. The boy told his mother that he remembered hearing voices when he slept.

In addition to the criminal solicitation charge, Winniewicz was arraigned before District Justice David Mark on two counts of endangering the welfare of children and one count of corruption of minors. He was placed in Washington County Jail on ,000 bond.

Mark also prohibited Winniewicz from having any contact with his wife or the boys if he is released from jail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively set for Wednesday in Central Court.

[edit: Moving Larking quote to top of the thread]

In one of my obscure victorian novels a guy tries to get rid of a sexual rival in this manner.

Its all comes undone when his daughter stabs his wife by mistake in the dark.

Quite a scary tale, and the thinking behind it was rather advanced for its day.

(I will say that the author based many of his tales on incidents he had heard of in the East end of London, so who knows, it might have been based upon a real incident??)

Do you have a list of Obscure Victorian Novels?

sounds good..... fortean grist and otherwise.

Right you lot, on a Chinese theme, can you reccomend me any good books or sites upon ancient Chinese weapons and armour??

(she is sick of the terracotta army...)

Afraid I can't help with the chinese stuff - I've had very useful responses by posting a request in Notes and Queries....

Er ... "The Plague Lord" by Paul Doherty? A murder mystery set in the court of the Kublai Khan.

Stonedoggy, what did you think of the book? Its a fastinating read! I found my copy on a shelf in a derilict house...seems oddly appropriate.

And Yes, I did realise that `Limehouse` is the proper name for Chinatown....

hang on hang on!

the net is wonderful - I'd found it, bought it for for $1.71 within about five minutes...

but the postie has to deliver it yet!

Couple accused of forcing their children to watch porn

Just when you think people have reached the pit of depravity and degradation:

Boyce couple accused of forcing children to watch porn

Teen arrested for allegedly raping another boy.

BOYCE - A Boyce couple are accused of forcing children to watch videos of them having sex, and punishing or threatening the children ages 2 to 15 if they refused. And a 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of raping a child at the same residence....

following some discussion, I have excised much of the text above, but have left the link intact so you may read it off-site if you wish. Not prudery, but we do have Coppa users on here - Stu

Emps you come up with some great stories but are you sure that this one really belongs here?

I'm not sure it's particularly Fortean and it is extremely disturbing in a graphic kind of way.

I think it is Fortean in the sense of describing extreme human behaviour. :(

Again it depends on one's definition of Fortean.

I count the extremes of human behaviour in that category and a couple who have brutalised their children to such an extent (one of whom has already become a sex offender - touching on the nature/nurture debate of human crimanal/deviant sexual behaviour) counts as far as I'm concerned (like the 'feral child' genie - although the abuse wasn't sexual in nature) but that is only my opinion (I have posted a number of other extreme child abuse reports and these parts) and others may differ. If the mods think it should be moved to another forum (or deleted) then thats fine by me.

[edit: And escargot posted while I was composing this - wth a much more succint version of the above ;) ]

Hahaha, the fastest snail in the west!
Or the East, considering I'm in Hungary.;)

Yeah, it's just my own personal idea of Forteana. No point splitting hairs. I like this definition;-

Basically it refers to the whole grab bag of strange phenomena that scientists often ignore, suppress, discredit, explain away, or otherwise find inconvenient. Such phenomena include (to name a few) unidentified flying objects (UFOs), mysterious animals (cryptozoology), spontaneous human combustion, unexplained natural phenomena (such as non-flying animals falling from the sky), and often psychic phenomena.

The depraved levels of human conduct in this case seem to be not a 'strange phenomena', they're frighteningly common. :( (Unfortunately there are even worse cases, maybe they're fortean...)

And I'd say it's not ignored, or discredited, there are plenty of people trying to understand it... and it's hardly suppressed, it's touted by the tabloids.

I've probabley just split some hairs!
 :D

Maybe we should have a thread on 'what forteana means to you'?! :p

DR: Yes I see your point but there are large grey areas at the edge. Its is a tricky one and I'm still finding my way on this one - sometimes it works sometime sit doesn't and sometimes it goes off topic and might as well be moved.

It gets tricky in the area I'm mainly interested in which is in the extremes of human behaviour. Parnts letting kids watch porn or even parents making their kids watch porn wouldn't be included but at the exteremes (where parents make the children watch their homemade porn and the son becomes a sex offender) then I'd include that.

I'd count it in the same kind of league as:

Father tries to make son a Manchurian candidate:
http://www.forteantimes.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12933

and parents lock children in cages for 13 years:
http://www.forteantimes.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12744

If I'm wrong then I'd like to know so I can adjust what I post ;)

[edit: and I have considered starting such a thread - get the ball rolling!!]

Minors who are abused by parents and then abuse other siblings or other minors aren't particularly strange or unusual, sadly it happens all too often.

I could cope with the Manchurian candidate and cage stories because they were genuinely bizarre and didn't involve CSA, this one I just find straight up nasty.

I am with Blackriver and the others. I also feel the same about all the other rape stories that get posted but haven't wanted to post anything to that effect because I don't want to "bump" the story. As they never normally get replies it looks like at the very least no-one else is interested and perhaps they are thinking the same as me.

Its possibly not worth a larger debate because these things need to be addressed on an individual basis.

I'll take those comments on board and adjust the type of material I post.

Woman takes son to exorcists in a suitcase

Woman Headed for Exorcist with Son in Suitcase?

Fri January 23, 2004 08:28 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - German police have arrested a Croatian woman who was traveling with her two-year-old son shut up in a suitcase on the way to an exorcist, authorities said on Thursday.

Police in the Bavarian capital Munich said they arrested the 24-year-old mother at a bus stop after a passenger heard noises coming from her suitcase and discovered the almost naked toddler huddled up inside.

"It was almost freezing that day, but the boy was only wearing a nappy. He was shivering quite badly but unharmed," said a police spokesman.

The woman told police her son was "possessed by the devil" and that she wanted to bring him to an occult priest, the spokesman added. She is now in psychiatric care.

Some news:

Child Forced to 'Feed' Corpse of Foster Grandfather after his Death at their Home

By Anthony Johnson

(Elizabeth-WABC, February 3, 2004) — A New Jersey couple is accused of forcing a 13-year-old foster child to repeatedly feed the corpse of an elderly relative who died in the house months ago. Authorities don't have a clear motive in the case, but say the couple from Clark, New Jersey simply did something most of us would consider unbelievable.

The family living in the house had a disgusting secret. A decaying body was inside an upstairs bedroom, and one of the couple's foster children was required each night to take food to the dead man.

Ted Romankow, Union County Prosecutor: "She didn't want to, I think, object to her responibility or her role -- that is, to feed grandpa -- because she was concerned that she might not remain there."

Apparently the 13-year-old foster girl had to deal with the stench, and swirled the food around in the plate to make it look like her 82 year old step-grandfather had been eating.

Ted Romankow: "She certainly wanted to show her mom and dad down stairs that she was doing what she was asked to do."

Although neighbors would not go on camera to talk about this case, they did tell us that during the past summer they smelled a strong odor emanating from that house. And police tell us that at one point in time before his death, the grandfather was found walking on the sidewalk right in front of his house but he was lost.

The first floor of the home was well kept, but the upstairs has been described as deplorable. Cops removed the body from the home last August, and say there is no doubt the couple knew that the elderly man had died.

All three of the children have been removed from the home, all of them were foster children. We contacted DYFS to find out when they were placed in the home, but DYFS would not call us back.

The couple that lived in the home, Donna and Kenneth Keaveney, have been charged with both elderly, and child abuse.

OK, now THAT is weird. Putting strangled women in boxes is standard serial killer fare, but this one was bizarre enough to fit.

I was a little disappointed though, as I originally misread, "Child force fed dead relative for three weeks." See if you can dig that one up, eh.

What we should start discussing for these things is motive. Your move.

Ah Larkin..... true but too specific. Most parents do an amazing job considering most offspring... I think it's just that People an have a very deliterious impact on other People.

Can't get my head round the actual story....:eek!!!!:

Kath Who Hasn't spoken to her parents since the mid 80s and who has solictors who deal with their attempts to talk to her.

i misread it too...and thought the parents were forcing the kid to cannibalise the old guy.

i got a bit excited.

oh well.
