Do we know that with certainty?
No but he only revealed that he had on Saturday, after the Uncanny episode. Given the timescales if the interview took place in the late 90s he's had plenty of opportunities - including his book and several local newspaper articles, one as recent as 2021 - to mention it, yet never, which for me indicates that it never took place.

I hope that I can find somewhere to view these soon. I'm disappointed that I can't join in on the conversation other than ask questions of what others here have posted:(
I hope so too, brownmane. They are patchy and sometimes a bit frustrating, but they're a cut above most other paranormal investigative programmes around these day, in my 'umble opinion.

I let my membership of the British Newspaper Archive lapse but I can still search and get the first few lines of articles and this is what I found.

Obviously I can't make much of a determination on these few lines but it hints that Richardson died not in the mine workings themselves?

freebmd.org.uk also says that 14 year old John Richardson died during this quarter in Durham.

Findmypast or ancestry might yield his death certificate.

I still don’t find it convincing. I’ve got notebooks from when I was a child, it’s easy to write something in them. These other witnesses all seem to be unfortunately dead, and I’d just want to see some evidence that Cate mentioned this ghost to someone before the blog. That’s not to say that it’s not possible that Cate saw a ghost but I think that having to identify it with a specific person is stretching the evidence.
Yes I asked directly for evidence she told someone before she saw the blog in my piece: I think she dismissed this directly in her response above.

To me the biggest problem remains that all the witnesses who have were toddlers at the time of the sightings they have recounted *to date*.

So fundamentally there's no evidence that can be presented that Cate ever mentioned Miss Howard before she saw the blog post. As I said, this doesn't mean she didn't see anything, it just means that if she did, it is not an apparition that can be identified.

Well chaps I've just been to Uncanny live! As promised here's my review and some info that might interest you.

Above: The stage in the intermission :litg:

The show was like an extended version of a podcast episode and two new cases were explored. I won't go into too much detail as I don't want to ruin it for anyone who is going to see it, but the first case concerned poltergeist activity and the second case involved a crisis apparition and possible paranormal activity following a death. Personally I preferred the latter and found it more compelling, although the first was probably more scary.

Danny also invited the audience to share stories and to be honest that was the most disappointing part of the show! They were just underwhelming and it dawned on me that my experiences, whilst not worthy of an Uncanny episode, are definitely more compelling than the ones that were shared... BUT I did get the impression that people felt quite shy so perhaps there were unspoken tales in that room that were real gems.

The two experts were Chris French and Evelyn Hollow - both made decent contributions and came across well. I believe the sceptic changes across the tour and there is one on the podcast that I really don't like, so I'm glad it wasn't her.

Cases from the podcast were rarely referred to and interestingly, there was absolutely no mention of the case which involved that creepy photo of the girl. I honestly don't know when it would have come up, perhaps apart from the audience participation sections. That said, those parts of the show were very much geared towards people sharing their own experiences, so I'm now wondering about the veracity of the mumsnet post that was mentioned earlier in the thread. All that said I'm not necessarily saying the mumsnet user is full of bs - it'll be interesting to see whether Danny brings this photo up in a future podcast episode.

One thing I'm kicking myself about is that I didn't bring my book, because it turned out he was doing a meet and greet and book signing afterwards. :slapd:(<--- me hitting my past self) I didn't fancy waiting in the queue but probably would have if I had it with me. So this is a heads up to anyone going to a future tour date!

Overall it was brilliant - a really good production and Danny was an excellent host. I've no doubt it was well rehearsed but it felt very natural and flowed nicely. He clearly has no trouble thinking on his feet and he interacted with the audience really well. I'd recommend going to the tour and I really hope they do another!

It also cemented my belief that he is a decent and well meaning bloke. I know there have been some grumblings on the thread about the way the TV cases were presented, and there are often times when we are frustrated that he hasn't asked about or addressed aspect X or Y of a case. However, you can tell that he treats everyone's experiences with respect, and he is very good at balancing belief and scepticism and challenging various viewpoints. My overall impression is that he is well intentioned and open minded even if he doesn't always approach/present cases in the way us lot might do so.

A final thought from myself... The show focused heavily on ghosts and I feel like we're hearing more and more poltergeist cases on Uncanny now. I understand that they're very dramatic and ripe for content, but I hope we still get to hear other types of cases such as UFOs and beasties etc. I think the problem with other types of cases is that they're often one off experiences and sometimes only have one witness. As such they tend to be more likely to be written off or explained away, but I do think they have value and offer a bit of variety.

And that's all from me! If you've made it this far well done, and I'm happy to answer any questions. :)

Thanks for that, CB. I have to say, much as I consider myself a bit of an "Uncanny" fan (an 'unfanny'? Doesn't quite work, does it?) I find I have no interest in attending a live show, but it was interesting to hear what it was like for you.

I have absolutely no doubt that Danny is genuine in his approach to the subject matter. He occasionally gets a bit melodramatic for the sensible tastes of likes of us in here, but his puzzlement and intrigue come through, and he does often step back and try to find the rational explanation.

I get the feeling from the way he talks/writes that in creating the crazy world of "Uncanny" he thinks he has stepped through the portal to the Twilight Zone and unleashed a monster on the safe, sane world of the BBC !!

All good points and I'm lol'ing at 'unfanny'. Last night a woman randomly shouted out "I love you Danny!" so perhaps she was an 'unfanny'. :hahazebs:

When did you get the tickets as I just found out last week about 2 dates in Newcastle but was listening to his podcast upto season 2 episode 8 from this May he advertise tour on it.

I'm planning an expedition to Liverpool in the coming weeks. My route conveniently takes me along Bold Street. :nods:
One of my sons has a Scouser girlfriend and goes to Liverpool games every week, and he sent me a pic of him in Bold St just as I'd watched that episode... When they got home, I made them sit down and watch it, because I couldn't remember what the shop is called now, and now he's seen it, is going to go and look. He loves this stuff.

Have read this story for years and was really excited that the other witness came forward.

Thanks to this thread, I binge listened to the podcast series, and one of my favourites is the Todmorden UFO one, even though I've heard that story many times and probably read about it here on the forums, it was great hearing that ex copper's voice, somehow hearing the actual witness interviewed - even if you've read their words before - brings it to life.

Danny embodies 'Uncanny' - even his hair is in a timewarp.

I got them back in March and even then a fair amount of tickets were already gone. I'm not sure whether it was the Uncanny podcast which alerted me or Danny talking about it on another podcast. It's clearly popular so they probably could have used a bigger venue, but the size of the audience felt about right, so perhaps if they tour again more shows would be the answer. I hate to say this but there were a couple of empty seats in the row in front of me too, must have been no shows... such a waste! :(

There's a short interview with Danny on the Real Life Ghost Stories podcast today if anyone's interested. He talks about the podcast series he made a while ago (Haunted) which is worth a listen if anyone hasn't listened to it.

I think Danny is going to need a lie down in a dark room over Christmas - he must be knackered at the moment!

P.S. @brownmane he also talked about the possibly of the TV series being sold abroad, so fingers crossed for you. :)
