Unconvention 2002

(I'm a neophite so excuse any mistakes) So then, Fortean chums and chumettes, who's going, and what are the hot topics going to be?

I'm going to try to go. 2000 pound on the account must be enough. I hope it won't be a disappointment to meet others interested in serious investigation on strange stuff.

I *really* want to go, but certain obstacles stand in my way. Need a passport. Need to purchase plane tickets (relatively easy). Never been overseas. Need to find a place to stay. Need to find transportation. Etc... Afraid I'm not quite that ambitious. We'll see.

Lastest FT gives a pretty good summary of the planned events/speakers, but I'd be interested in hearing what you all are going to be up to 'on the side'. Anyone hosting a little stand, or planning to start a devoted cult following?

Starting a cult sounds nice. But I was considering seeing if I couldn't get them all to do the hogey pogey around the area.

In the interest of completeness, there are three other threads on the subject of Uncon 2002:

On one of them, FT staffer Ian Simmons has even named someone where forum members might be able to meet. It would be good if the organisers could set up a small stand (or a table, an old chair, even a stool - anything will do) in honour of the website and Message Board, and to act as a focus for members to cross paths with one another.

Any, as I've indicated before, I'll be there.

Splendid idea. I don't know the names of the pubs local to the venue, but I'm sure that people will work something out. I really enjoyed the last Uncon, I was expecting more people with tin foil shields built into there X-files baseball caps, so was pleasantly surprised to see a genuine mix of normal people ;) I laughed so hard at Ken Campbell my hair hurt.:D

I'm going to Uncon 02 hopefully, know any good hotels round that end?

I'd love to go, but I currently don't have much money, and I'd want someone to go with me anyway yet none of my friends seem to be particularly interested :( Maybe next time...

No, no, those are the people that attend the Roswell festival every year. If I lived close enough I'd even attend that just for the heck of it, as for the Unconvention it's out of my grasp, it's too far away and I'm too broke.........

The latest issue of FT (155) recommends visiting http://www.forteantimes.com (p47) for Uncon ticket info, accomodation and travel packages. I don't know why, 'cause there's no sign of it on the site as far as I can see.

However, it shouldn't be too tough for anyone going to find a hotel within reasonable proximity. I, for instance, will post where I'll be as soon as it's arranged, and the rate. Hopefully, the FT staff can get their info on the site soon; and just maybe discount rates can be arranged for anyone who can prove they're an Uncon attendee.

As for our colonial and other international friends, perhaps Mark & Alistair can rig up a coupla webcams - at the convention, and at the local pub - just so y'all don't entirely miss out?

:)

Can some kind soul direct me to the Unconvention 2002 website?
None of the search engines list it, and the ad at the top of this webpage has no clickable link.
Thanks.
