Strange how depictions of aliens are always very similar indeed. Any one know when the first image of the small thin large headed large slanted eye alien came into being?

The Betty Andreassen case (1967 IIRC) is the first introducting the classic 'Grey' imagery, though the Hill abduction is a significant influence on this one, I think.

There are a lot of earlier science fiction depictions that are of relevance, starting out with those imagining what 'evolved' future humans might look like.

I remember seeing artist's renditions of future humans in books and magazines during the 70s and 80s and they were always bald with small noses and wore Star Trek clothing (without the Starfleet insignia!).

It is worth remembering that Barney Hill's initial sketch of the alien was a somewhat square-jawed and menacing character replete with a militaristic cap but he subsequently softened the features:

Personally I feel the miscellany of alien types being reported by witnesses posed a credibility problem for some Ufologists and they sought to instils a common alien grey archetype (based on those future humans) through hypnotic suggestion and subtle persuasion.

Regardless, I personally feel the Beety & Barney case is seriously flawed and that her famous Star Map recalled under hypnosis:

...was in fact her recalling the D-Day map that hung in her office at work, no doubt similar to this one;

This situation is very sad.

We have an injured alien looking for help.

All this alien got was being trapped like an animal and people throwing stones at the alien.
