Visions: Are They Common Among Teens?

Since I was 12, I have had deja vu on a regular basis about twice a week, at first it was not so frequent but now I am nearly 16 and I am getting it nearly every-other-day. It freaked me out at first but now I just take it in my stride, it is normally little things like realising that I've written an essay before but I know full well that I haven't. But just lately its gotten big, bombs in London and seeing battles in the ancient times on land that has never been excavated until recently and the archeologists have announced that there was indeed a battle, I saw things in that very landscape before the skeletal remains where found.
It started with dreams but its creeping into my waking state and I know I'm not alone because there is one other guy in my class who suffers the same. There so vivid. I think I may be picking up some sort of Psyhcometric interference...does anyone else have my strange affliction?

WARNING :This is gospel truth and not to be scoffed at, if you dont beleive me then why are you on this web forum.

In my humble opinion this sounds like a teenager starting to come to terms with awareness of past lives, i.e. reincarnation. I never really delved into this too much, yet growing up I used to picture myself as being from another city and a few other things, yet not to the extent that you've described. The key is to be strong and not let it freak you out.

Oh, it doesn't freak me out any more, when it started when I was 12, it did, but now I think its quite cool. My mom has an ESP link with my dad and vice versa, so I think I get it from my parents.
I think I can astral project as well, some times I'll wake in the early ours because I feel as if I have been dropped from about 3 feet above my bed! I also get this really detached feeling that words cant describe...I think I'm some sort of mutant or something, seriously! But I am gifted, I'm an excelent artist for my age, not being pompous just truthful...

You are not a mutant. I've heard people say that everyone has the ability to be psychic, but that most of us are too wrapped up in the material world to recognize this. Also, if police go to psychics to help victims of crime, then this shows that even the tools of the state apparatus believe in esp. This world needs great leaders, so it's good to come across young, thoughtful people. I hope you aren't too upset with the adults for botching things up. On astral projection, I used to know deadheads--fans of the Grateful Dead- a group that catered to a loving, peaceful vision, who believed they could meet each other in beautiful spiritual places by astral projection. I wish you good luck and fortitude if you venture into these things. You are still very young and may want to be careful in pushing these things.

When I say 'Astral Projection', I mean, not being in my body! I quite literally "hit the bed". But I dont want to go getting into these cult things.
I am young still and have experienced more things than many 30 year olds have. I have on occasion been able to read peoples thoughts.
I want to strengthen my power and try Telekinesis and Psycho-kinesis, but I am not powerful enough...yet. Or am I and just dont know it!?
Do you think I am a strong psychic?

I am openminded to esp but would have no clue as to your abilities. If you could give me a few predictions or visions, I am sure myself and others could give you our honest opinions, and perhaps there is a good soul out there who can relate better to your specific situation and lend you some guidance. Yet, eventhough this isn't skeptics.com, I think you should always be on your guard for cultish type minds and ideas and exploiterers who could steer you in the wrong way. That's why I said you should take this slow, so when you are an adult you will be able to handle anything. You only get the one childhood.

Thanks, I need to talk to people like you who can understand me, I can't talk to friends about it because they call me a 'wack job' or 'looney toon' 'cos I have this ability.
By the way, I'll tell you when I get another vision.
Last night I was on this big grassland near where I live with my parents and our dog, and we all heard noises. Clashing of wood, dull, muffled thuds and bangs, and voices, whispers, loads of voices talking at once yet not in unison. This morning I dug up some info detailing the descovery of two roman burial mounds...coincidence?

Ok, Oracle, it sounds like some genuinely weird shit is happening to you.

I would say the most important thing is to veiw it with an open mind. Remember just because you've had some apparently genuine instances of precognician or psychometry doesn't mean that next time it will be geniuine.

I don't want to sound like I'm doubting you, or calling you a liar because I'm not. I'm just councelling you to be cautious.

I have experienced some of the same kind of stuff. Sometimes I know about things before they happen. Sometimes I will get a weird vibe from a thing or place or person which will later turn out to be well grounded. I have learned to trust my intuition first and ask questions later. I have even recieved a message from a dead relative which contained information which I could not have got from normal sources.

However that doesn't mean I believe a word of it. All these things definately happened to me but that doesn't make me psychic. It does mean that I have experienced the apparently inexplicable. Which I think is way cooler. :D

Cujo
ps. I do believe you and you are not crazy :).

Your doubts are well founded and I respect you for airing them on my topic, and thankyou for not been one of those dumbasses who sit and laugh then spill a whole load of shit on me for telling them in confidence!
There is some seriously weird shit going on in my town (Beverley, Yorkskire, England), and I'm convinced it isn't just me. The new houses that have been built are haunted and there has only been one owner, who still lives there, in its 5 year history...luckily ours isn't, but nextdoor's is! We hear scraping on the walls and banging in the kitchen when they are away at there caravan...weird or what!?
I am genuinely freaky, but thats in the blood, also my mum used a Ouija board when she was 17 and she didn't close the link...bad things happen when you close the link!

Beverley!!!! Wow! I'm in Hessle! Knowing Fort and his theories we've probably met in a public place as well. Strange... I'm in millions of other forums on the net but this is the first one with someone who lives near me :D
Xcom:)

OK, so, you see my point...Hull actually is the Hellmouth...
Like the chaos theory says, who could have predicted that two people on the same forum, amongst millions of others, could come across each other being only 13 miles apart?
Hmmm...explain someone, I'm confused:confused:

Anyway, do you meen Hessle in Hull, near the Humber Bridge?

You are correct :D and we appear to be online at the same time too :)
XCOM:)

Its wierd, but, what school are you at? If you are a student of course...

Just finished GCSE's (but back for 6th form). I'm at Hessle High upper. Where are you?
XCOM:)

Alas no.
Your signature taken from 'contact'? (rapid change of subject no?)
XCOM:)

Ha ha, Yes it is. And yes, change the subject ASAP...ha haaa!
I shall now change my signatureto something more witty, ha ha ha haaa...(I'm losing it!)

I'm going to have to change my location now... I'll be right back!

Let's get it going again!

A realy interesting topic this, so I quote the original post by Oracle:

"Since I was 12, I have had deja vu on a regular basis about twice a week, at first it was not so frequent but now I am nearly 16 and I am getting it nearly every-other-day. I myself have been subject to visions of a kind, but then I probably don't get out enough! Has anyone else been afflicted/blessed with similar experiences an how do you interpret them and understand them? Do you give them objective validity or do you understand them in some other way?

Ah, bless'im.

Good old Oracle, I wonder what happened to him?

He was probably abducted by government agents or space aliens, I never can tell the difference these days, and inducted into some secret project to use mutants as weapons or somesuch...

Are Visions common to teens?

What, as in more common than any other age group? Or you think they start in your teens and carry on?

I would say teens are more likely to experience poltergeists. Certainly I was about 13/14 when I experienced something like a poltergeist. As to seeing people, hearing voices, sensing things, well that's been going on so long I don't pay it any attention. They go away if I ask nicely. I don't get so freaked out as I used to. So, no, I would say it's not specific to teens. Actually, if a teenager of about 16 - 18 suddenly started seeing things and hearing voice, I'd suspect schizophrenia first. A guy I used to know turned 18 and had severe schizoid episodes, visual and aural hallucinations. Funny thing was that he was telling me about 18 months before of a recurring dream he had when he was faced with two tunnels, one with light at the end of it, and the other in darkness. He said he felt drawn to the dark tunnel because of the voices that came out of it. I sort of distanced myself from thereon in, cus it looked all along like it was going to end nastily.

Not likely...

I'm still alive and well, and...I'm back...been away and had loads of work to do for GCSE preparations. Plus, I've been asking questions of Reality since I played Metal Gear Solid 2. Anyone who has played and completed and listened to the ending dialogue will know what I mean.

Do we really know who or what we are, or what is real even?

If reality is what you can see, hear, smell or touch then...isn't it simply a combination and amalgamation of sensory perceptions?
We can say we hear something or see it, but do we, is it not just our perceptions and often preconceived expectations of what to expect that moulds our very living?

I'm gonna start a new thread on this!:D

There's a good song called "Astral Plane" on the first album by the Modern Lovers. It's hornier and more cynical than any Dead song I've ever heard.

Hmmmm...this seems like a good place to come back to after so long away....I wonder if anyone remembers me...

Oracle, me ol' souffle! How're you doing? Hey that black looks good on you. Pop 'round JW's later and have one on the house...

*Exunt*

Well...long story...

...I was simply walking home from college one day and this big...erm...no, actually, i've been away for a good long while, sort of Bilbo Baggins style....i've been without a computer for most of it which is why i haven't been on here for so long...

But it's nice to know i'm still known in these Great Echoing halls of Forteana....

...On the house you say? :eek!!!!:

[I shall append my story here, out of respect to those on the forum (who, nearly two decades ago) I just used to read the submissions of, back when I was The Lurker of all lurkers. Maybe it deserves to be excised, and enforumed as new thread. I'm unsure]

Flawed visions- views of other unrealities

Perhaps if anyone is ever really blessed (or cursed) with a vision of future, it will always be partial at best. Or completely-useless and confusing, at worst.

In the early 1980s, I can remember the launch of MTV (as in the satellite & cable television channel Music TV) and the first broadcasts of highly-innovative (for that era) visual entertainment & arthouse excess.

Perhaps this was a catalyst for what I experienced. Or merely a backdrop for it.

Anyway- as someone then just into their post-teen years, I dreamed many times of people in vast crowds, all with what seemed to be tiny cameras, flashing, taking pictures of each-other. At the time, I knew they were using phones. As cameras.

I cannot over-emphasise this point enough. I knew then (in the same intimate/inarguable/mundane way, if you or I to dream tonight of someone using a smartphone) that they all had a commonplace, simple, electronic communications device. Something that was as disposable and replaceable as a lightbulb. A personal device, as intimate as wristwatch. But much more important.

I find this hard to describe: the dreams (as they sometimes can be) had their own gnostic sets of context and understanding. Unlike a movie, these fragmented visions of a future (if that's what they were) were beyond mere depiction. They were more like swimming in a stream of accepted mundane future reality.

What I can say is that I had the firm unswerving impression, decades before it really happened, of:
  • these dream-people using cameras-that-were-phones-that-were-cameras
  • people not commonly tending to use these 'intimate phones', very-often, to actually speak with each-other
  • these devices being nearly throwaway items
  • a vaguely dystopian feel to the scenes
What I did not pre-emptively sense in these dreams/visions: the direct existence of the internet (but it was implied); anything 'soft' (ie these were key hardware devices, no predictive imaginings of social media)

A valid counter to this rambling 'vision'/ dream having any prescient valency at all is that people may have vaguely dreamed about (and predicted the future existence of) mobile phones since the 1800s, or earlier. I'll think of this as the Star Trek Ostension Self-Fulfilling Prophesy Effect.

But for me (perhaps I'm being a hypocrite, since I am normally the arch-skeptic) somehow I feel I really did have a few flawed-and-fractured visions of the present, over thirty years ago
