Couldn't find Shop N Quick outside California.
According to the earlier post quoting the Reddit thread the receipt doesn't show "Shop N Quick" (the name of some central California convenience businesses), but rather "shop and quick gas."

Interesting and creepy... but... maybe I'm being dumb? .... did no-one at any stage take in the name of the little town? I know the poster might have just been heading for the gas station, so the town name might not have registered as important, but it does sound like it was a settlement of a reasonable size, with a number of houses, so I presume it would have had a name. Did the people involved not register whether it had a name? Or have they forgotten it? The latter seems rather unlikely, considering they all felt the same weird feeling about the place.

So how about they contact the HQ of the generic gas store chain with a cover story eg “my wife dropped her valuable wedding ring on the forecourt and we are trying to locate the exact store and here are my receipt and transaction details”.

Should be easy to do as online banking allows you to see the details of debit/credit card transactions, or at the very least you have a date, time and amount and general area.

Or how about you tell the debit/credit card company you don’t recognise the transaction on your statement and ask for details. Credit and debit card transactions are not anonymous and leave a trail through the system. The gas station will have a merchant identity.

The posts on Reddit mentioning Shop n Quick and Shop and Quick has been deleted. Strange, if it the name can be confirmed on the receipt from the bank.

The 1970s Strange But True two couples driving through France to Spain and the disappearing time-slip French hotel that weirdly accepted their 1970s French money have clearly moved into modern folklore....

St. George and Littlefield are not very far apart. Something like 30 miles, so the story doesn't make much sense anyway. They'd have passed at least a few places to get gas in St. George, so presumably they'd have been at least a few miles down the road when they decided a nine mile detour made more sense than just cruising on into Littlefield. Running out of gas on an Interstate is a whole lot less of an ordeal than running out on a back road in the middle of nowhere, which is what's out there in that neck of the woods.

I agree with Hunck.

Yes! I noticed that one too!
You could argue about second hand changing bags for several weeks without being a premenopausal* woman, or even a woman at all!
Not to mention that people with insider knowledge of satanic forest cults are probably in the minority among all demographics, but why wouldn't frazzled, middle class, premenopausal women who argue passionately about used changing bags be well represented among such satanists? It's not just for disaffected guys, ya know.

Do second hand changing bags count in the items needed for satanic forest cult rituals, or do they need to be first hand? The debate continues.

A friend who like me likes hanging around in grave yards (Genealogist). Literally stumbled upon a porn shoot. A lady on someone's crypt and some bloke conkers deep with someone else recording it, lighting the works. Talk about descecration and seriously not the scene you expect in a cemetery.

'conkers deep' I like that, can I borrow that phrase @terracuk ? It's very autumnal.

Not sure how relevant this is but I live very close to what was supposed to have been the scene of one of the few ritual satanic abuse cases prosecuted in the UK in the 80s. There was supposed to be hundreds turning up for these ceremonies, but there’s absolutely nowhere to park, and it’s very close to a large area of housing. Maybe it’s our neighbours, and they walk, but no one’s ever invited us.

The mother of an ex of mine was known for shenanigans like that, though without the cinematic setting.

She'd stroll to the Liverpool Arms on Conwy Quay of an evening via the town graveyard.
While this is a well-known and picturesque daytime short cut, at night the route presented a chance to make her beer money on the way. :wink2:

All lies, I'm sure.

Erm, it was not uncommon in the goth community back in the day. Not your nice neatly trimmed, (and I talking about lawns here), cemeteries, as that would be a bit fucked up, more your old abandoned graveyards.

Satanist parking issues. :chuckle: Also, you'd need to hire a couple of portaloos too.

"Yeah we're doing a spot of ritual sacrifice on Saturday, I think two would cover it. Do you know where we might get a burger van?"

This definitely fits the bill. Very old, overgrown. Last burial circa 1860.

Like for the Liverpool Arms - had the odd lock in there back in the day.

Too easy to reel out of the front door and straight off the quay in the early hours! :chuckle:

If you left it late enough you could pick up a couple of dabs from the booth to grill for your breakfast.

The Alan Godfrey case is mentioned in there, but the details seem a little confused as Alan himself talks about finding the cows behind locked gates on Centre Vale Park and not back in the farmer's field as claimed in this link.
I'm still slowly making my way through the comments. I'm not familiar with the Alan Godfrey case, so I guess that's more reading for me later!
