What Did You Dream Of Last Night?

Last night I dreamed of our old cat, Sally. She was the family pet whilst I was growing up, a ginger female who died back in the early 80's at the ripe age of 16, and I don't think I've dreamed of her once since.

In the dream she was sitting on my knee being stroked, very fluffy, very happy, and I was talking to her and trying to work out how old she must be. She didn't look like an elderly cat, she looked gorgeous and in her prime.

I woke up slightly confused, as I've had hundreds of cats in the interim, and also many dogs, of whom I rarely dream. So dreaming of a cat who has been gone for forty odd years, was very out of place! But I've had two customers who have lost pets recently (one cat, one dog) and who came to tell me about it (as I usually ask after people's animals when I see them), so I wonder if that was the cause of my dream throwback?

It was nice to see the old cat again, though, I have to say.

I had an odd dream last night in which I had gone into some kind of large hall (like a school main hall) and there were a large number of people in there sitting on the floor all spaced about 10ft apart, and each person had their pet dog with them.
I walked up some small steps to stand on a tiny platform which had a metal railing around it.
A number of the dogs came over in a friendly manner and I stroked each one.
It wasn't like it was Crufts or any other sort of dog show, it was more like they had assembled there just to meet up for some reason, and the dogs that came over to me were very familiar, as if I knew them already.

Then I had to transport a couple of kids, aged about 8 and 10, to their home in St Albans but I didn't have booster seats in my car so I couldn't.

I have absolutely no idea.

I shat myself copiously then had to get home with a ghastly squelchy mess in the trouser dept. Can’t remember all the details now but I had to walk for some of it then got in a car. I don’t have a sense of smell but was told it was bad. You get the picture. It went on for quite a while. Then I woke up.

Phew.

Didn't sleep well last night but must have been dozing when I heard what sounded like a door flapping. I got up to check but all the doors were shut fast. Just dozed off and was woken by what sounded like someone knocking on the window.

I dreamed last night that I was in a job interview. I told the person interviewing me that I was moving "back to Canada" which was where this job was. I have no plans/desires to move back to Canada. As a US Southerner, I'd moved to Canada several years ago for some time, but returned to the US just squeaking in before the pandemic started. I remember thinking in my dream, "Oh. It's gonna be cold...again."

Edited to add: loved Canada, no complaints. Lovely people.

I lined up a load of podcasts to listen to last night and went to sleep with them playing and drowning out the wife’s snoring. Twice I was woken by our Labrador barking at full voice over the sound of the podcasts, a sign he wants to go out to do his business.
Twice I got up to find him hunkered down in his comfortable bed, probably wondering why the hell I was disturbing his sleep.
I obviously dreamed both the barking episodes. Possibly due to the Godwin’s I downed before bed.

Terrible night last night- toothache and a sore throat.

If you've ever seen these things about the size of a pen but with a telescopic 'aerial' with a magnet on the end (used for when you drop your keys down a drain or behind the fridge etc) - I had got that stuck on a filling in my mouth and could not pull it off. This went on for ages, then eventually I ended up pulling a filling out about the size of a dice. I was thinking how the hell am I going to afford to get that fixed.

Then I got it stuck on my front tooth (?) and again it would not come off. I was worrying about breaking my tooth now, as well as the dentist's bill for the filling. This seemed to go on for ages as well. Trying to get the magnet off my tooth.

Then, Dolly Parton turned up.
I wanted to know where she was born but she wouldn't tell me.
This all took place in an 'hotel' of some kind.
MrsF made a brief appearance at some point but I can't remember why.

It wasn't until the last couple of sentences that I realised this is the 'dreams' thread, and I had been thinking "Why did you put a magnet in your mouth?".

And Dolly Rebecca Parton was born January 19, 1946, in a one-room cabin on the banks of the Little Pigeon River in Pittman Center, Tennessee.

I don't see why she couldn't have just told me that when I asked. It's not as if I mentioned boobs or anything to her.

The clocks went back an hour last night so when I woke up this morning I thought I might as well use the extra hour gainfully, so I turned over to get more sleep.

So....I was playing a 'fruit machine' on my PC in my front room. The sun was streaming through the windows (which is difficult unless I were able to turn the house through 180 degrees but we'll ignore that) making the screen hard to see. Suddenly I had a 'big' win of £21.
Then this bloke knocked at my front door. Some 'foreign' chap (I think maybe Polish?) doing a delivery of a child's scooter (up to age 11 it had printed on the box).
I explained that he must have the wrong address and that there are no children here.
He insisted that he was right.
His two friendly, large, black dogs had somehow got into my kitchen so I had to usher them out.
Then him and his colleague were inside my house and had managed to knock over a can of lager next to my PC. "Clumsy buggers" I thought.
Then they had gone and my brother, his missus and their 2 teenage kids had arrived and were sitting in my front room.
My brother was telling me that I shouldn't move to Hackney.
But I had to go outside because my old Ford Sierra (I don't own a Ford Sierra BTW) was parked on the verge at the side of my house and several teenagers were sitting on its roof, which had severely dented it. I was livid and I grabbed one of them by the arm, demanding to know who they were and where they came from, and some of the neighbours were coming out of their houses to see what was going on.
But the scrapman was already here. Gathering up all the rusty spanners that were, for some reason, littering the pavement, and then he used the big crane arm to pick up the now rusty and squashed remains of my Sierra too.
Curses - the large bolt that held the arm of my glasses to the frame had come out! I'll have to get some new glasses now.

And then I woke up. Exactly an hour had passed by. And I have absolutely no idea what on earth that dream was about.

I'm going to put this one here for posterity really quick-like....

This morning I was dreaming, don't remember what about, but at the end, the dream shifted into this little snippet before I woke up. In it, there was some younger girl on a monitor or TV and she was explaining (apparently she was a trustworthy source for this, at least that's how it felt in the dream) that "The Big One" (California giant earthquake) was "only seconds to minutes away."

She was pointing to a graphic of the US West Coast and, although there were other red marks, specifically a line down the coast, the epicenter seemed to be Northern California.

I woke up wondering if we'd feel it here in the Midwest.

Edit: I just looked it up and although there aren't any major faults there, the epicenter showed to me in the dream was North of Sacramento by around 100 miles or so.

I dreamt I was engaged to Chrissie Hynde, a person I am quite indifferent to in real life. For some reason the fact that I am already married to a woman I love seemed to be not a big problem.

:dunno:

Maybe she had a message of love for you?
That sort of dream is rather middle of the road - it's not going to make you the talk of the town.
Don't get me wrong, though, I wouldn't mind dreaming about Chrissie Hynde when I go to sleep.

I wonder if she woke up and said "Who's that fellow I was dreaming about? If there was a man like that, I'd make him my baby." The thought is kinda nice, I like it. I'd like to ask her about it, but she must be more than 2000 miles away, so I guess I'll never do that.

Let's stop this now - unless someone can work "Brass in Pocket" into a normal sentence.

I used to dream of Chrissie Hynde a hell of a lot when I was 16, and for a lot longer afterwards.

I stopped a baby in a pram from rolling down a hill.
Then I was in a room with this woman who was kicking a football against the walls so that it bounced off and hit me.
Then my son phoned me up to tell me he was going to run a pub for two weeks. In Australia.

Beats me.

I dreamt I was sorting through more clothes when all of a sudden several mice appeared.
They were all dressed in brightly coloured knitted bodysuits which for some reason I thought was for Christmas.
I tried to catch one but they whisked out of sight , then I woke up.

I had to go to the new premises of a company I was working for, in a new warehouse, to hand back the van keys because I didn't want to do the deliveries anymore, and besides, I was only working for them 2 days a week.

When I woke up I was convinced that it was a job I had actually had before and I was racking my brains trying to remember when/where it was that I had worked for them, and what company it was?
What an arse.

I was sorting through some items and uncovered a brightly coloured object.
I had a feeling of delight and thought" Ah, I've found you again" . Then I woke up.
Not quite sure what it was but it was pretty.

I dreamt that I was given 3 small pots with little trees and thinking that they needed feeding and watering.
I wondered if it had anything to do with having 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

I dreamt I was in London with a colleague. It was dark and rainy and we were waiting for a bus. I wasn't sure which bus to look out for and was relying on him, but he kept wandering off because he was sad.

I think I probably do rely on him a bit too much at work as he is one of those rare people who is approachable and competent.

I’d watched the first two episodes of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, so l remarked to my wife that, if l dreamed at all, it was going to be horrific. Instead, it was just…odd:

Imagine one of those huge catering-style white plastic buckets with most of its bottom cut away, leaving just a circular ledge. lt was balanced on a horizontal pipe. Under that pipe, and only inches below it, was a fast-flowing stream of water. Inside the bucket, perched on the vestigial rim around the inner base, were chickens seated in a circle so that they were facing each other and the centre of the bucket.

Suddenly, one of the chickens lost its footing and fell through the hole in the bottom of the bucket, and into the racing water. lts head sank beneath the surface as it struggled to regain its perch.

l was observing, mentally urging the chicken on to greater efforts to get back to safety, yet slow to intervene for some reason.

Eventually l think l lunged forward to rescue the drowning bird, and…

… woke up.

Where does this nonsense come from?

Sounds like you fear aging, or feel that you are aging, younger people are appearing in your dream and annoying you, trying to push you out.
The rusty spanners are older memories of yours, and they are being 'squashed' now.
I don't mean this unkindly, it's just the bits and pieces of your dream that stand out obviously, perhaps unconscious thoughts, we all have them! :)

This was an odd short bit of dream I had last night, which is possibly linked to the fact that I saw this chaps (* - pseudonym used) missus in the supermarket yesterday and she was dressed all in black (not unusual TBH) and it made me think of how I haven't seen him about for a while.
So in my dream I was looking at 'facebook', and somebody had posted "RIP *Des Collett, died from cancer, you will be sadly missed" which made me think that maybe he had been ill for a long time and that's why I hadn't seen him around.
