Over to Whitby in North Yorkshire for the Hallowe'en Goth Weekend.

Here are a few photos of some of the participants I spotted. Please excuse the photo quality - the Friday and Saturday were cold and rainy, the Sunday bright and dry but absolutely rammed with punters.

Paddleboarding in costume, in the rain. Commitment!

Goth Morris dancers. Another tick on my bucket list.

This little cutie was enjoying them.

The W.I. has changed...

She'll do well if she ever overcomes her crushing shyness.

No idea. None.

Can I take him home, Mum?

Drop a sov in his chamber pot and he honks at you. True story.

Goodbye, Whitby.

Thank you very much for those, very cool. The lil girl looks bloody frozen, but she seems to be loving it bless her.

Well it was a stag party!
Yeah I think he won the fancy dress competition on points har har (points antlers)

Nah, he doesn't doe that any more, not with hind-sight!

Off to the Northlands again for the Whitby Goth Weekend.

Below are some pictures which will give you a taste of what to expect if you choose to visit next year (and I highly recommend that you do!):

Whitby is where Dracula comes ashore in England in the Bram Stoker novel. From memory, Mina Harker sees the gleaming red eyes of the spectral black dog from her position near the whalebone arch (top right in the pic below). She then runs down the Khyber Steps (zigzag path below the big hotel in upper right), along the bay front, across the bridge (out of sight to our left), then up the 199 steps from the bay to Whitby Abbey (behind me). Girls were fitter and/or hornier back then...

The abbey itself. Buwahahaha!

The streets of Whitby during the event (hence the inferior quality of some of my pics...):

The local businesses are not slow to get in on the act

Even the pets join in:

My favourite pet (first as Mina Harker (?), then as saucy pirate wench):

Shy? Don't apply...

For me, the best effort of the weekend:

- And don't forget refreshments:

Recommended boozers:

The Black Horse for the ale & patter; the Little Angel for the counterculture vibe. (My missus was gutted to miss Drag Bingo afternoon.)

See you there next year.

I must say, Whitby does have a nice range of paving slabs/cobbles. I'd go just for those I reckon.

I love the Raven's Morris team; we always book them for the Filey Steampunk weekend. :)

And that's just the weather.
When it's sunny, it's gorgeous but packed with visitors.
When it's wet 'n' windy, however, it's a bit grim and the pubs are packed instead. :)
Still, it is incredibly scenic.
