Who To Play Crowley?

'I do not be-leeeve it!

Erm, yes I do!'

Did you know John Savidant, who plays the bizarre behemoth of butchery Fred Elliott, played one of the sinister political agents who try and use Alex for their cause near the end of A Clockwork Orange? Nearly pissed myself when I realised that.

I think the old crowley could be played by that fella who plays the Emperor/Senator Palpatine/Darth Sideous in Star Wars.

Just a quick thank you to Boo. I've had many a secret chuckle this last week imagining Fred Elliott in "Carry on Crowley".:D

Shrivelled

The very old Crowley was a shrivelled old man with a goatee and cane, looked the typical dotty old English gent. Not threatening at all and in fact hard to believe it's even The Beast Himself.

However, as to actors: Kevin Spacey was a good thought. Willis would flub the accent. Hopkins would be lovely, but a bit too Hannibal Lectorish I'd think. John Malkovitch has the gravitas, but is a bit off somehow. Jeremy Irons might carry it a short distance before collapsing into mysterioso. Vin Diesel is just TOO American, lol.

How about holding an open call and discovering a new actor to handle it?

i'm your man

Having left the theater many years ago in search of truth in thelema, i'd love to play him myself(as i've been practicing so long), but what about Robert Anton Wilson? Billy Bob Thornton? if we hurry we could still get Marlon Brando...lol(or maybe not so funny; his son could play the young a.c.). is Leo McKern still alive?(he played #2 in several Prisoner eppisodes)

can you imagine though? think it would be a 'cursed' picture?

Unfortunately Leo McKern died only a couple of weeks ago.

If he could get the accent right, I think Robert Duvall could make a fair go of it.

And how about Malcolm McDowall?

Protests Galore

Amishaman - It would be protests galore from the xtian right, that's for sure. The fundies would simply lose their collective brain cell over any attempt to make a movie of Uncle Al's life.

Malcolm MacDowell's not at all a bad thought, though. He'd bring some brio to the role, that's for sure.

Brio...? Brio...? If you say so. McDowell would be good though.
I still like Albert Finney as the older Crowley.
Good to see ya here Frater....

Finney

Wu - Yes, Finney wouldn't be bad at all. He's more ferocious than Hopkins.

Glen

I've got BBC Amerika, but haven't yet watched an episode of MONARCH OF THE GLEN. Is it any good?

Comedy?

It's an outrageous comedy, right? So I take it the gamekeeper gets many of the best lines and wildest behavior, is that it?

Comedy/drama I would say.

Richard Briers was the Star till this series and he had the funniest stuff in the whole thing. The gamekeeper though, can tame wolves with his small and index fingers. (like Crocodile Dundee)
He gets to chase poachers with axes and shotguns......good laugh. Has its serious moments.

Monarch of the Glen

More bollox about a class system the ruling elite insist doesn't exist.

Large tracts of Scotland are still ruled by semi-feudal Lairds, Lords and absentee Landowners. Here it's played for, benign dictatorship, fun and frolic.

Load a' shite.

Lairds verus Crofters

And there we have a clash between management and labor, eh? LOL

And there we have a clash between management and labor, eh? LOL
Not that far advanced I'm afraid. We're talking `landowner's' and `tenants.'

Agreed androman but the character that I highlighted is a comman man.

I am free to wander or camp anywhere in Scotland and the Feudal country that you described is practically on its knees.

England however is quite different.

Fox hunting has been banned in Scotland because of the people that used to be a minority when we were cleared from the highlands and replaced by sheep.

Recent findings have found that the people of Scotland are Democratic, Socialist and humanitarians. These are the people that you should now be speaking of.

Monarch of the Glen is twee and cheesy but the point of it is that the world that you mention is vanishing (thank Fcuk!)

Scotland is no longer powered by the elite of yesteryear and its a good job too. Our major parties in our parliament are Labour, SNP, and the Scotish Socialist Party.

The Tories (conservative) are practically gone. In 1997, the Tories lost all their seats in Scotland and we cleared the highlands of them. 100%

Anyway, this was about who should play Crowley so........the Gamekeeper from Monarch of the Glen!

Its a comedy, mate!

back to the thread...

too bad good ol' Orson Welles ain't around anymore...he'd of played him fine.

as for malcolm mcdowell, a youger perhaps, but after seeing him on the fantasy island rework a couple years ago, i've lost faith.

perhaps brando's son for the younger crowley...?

oh, forget it, i just figured it out...Jack Black of Tenacious D. Perfect. any takers?

Or, apologist drivel. Compton Mackenzie wrote the original, on which it is very loosely based, as a satire, at a time when such high jinks were still the status quo.

----------------------------- ------- --- -- -

However, back on thread:

Sticking with `Monarch of the Glen,' Julian Fellowes, who plays `Lord Killwillie,' really would make an excellent Crowley. That's the guy who wrote the screenplay for `Gosford Park' and won an Oscar.

Do you watch it then?
Only the trailers.

I quite like Robert Altman films though (Gosford Park), and I was surprised when I saw who'd written the screenplay.

I'm still pissed they felt the need to include a `Lady Jane' style character in Para Handy! Ruined the whole premise.

Gregor Fisher (Rab C. Nesbitt)! Another excellent candidate for the role of Crowley.

Another possible...

(Purely physically) anyone seen Peter Gabriel lately? He was on TOTP2 just now...

Gabriel

Stu - Peter Gabriel does indeed begin to resemble Uncle Al, and I think it goes beyond the physical. He's always been a bit twitchy, and his lyrics a touch mystical and even esoteric at times. He could work, if handled properly by a good director.

Dig Hitchcock up. Or Kubrick, if you want real strangeness.

What about him as plays Phil, out Eastenders?

Using my extraordinary powers as a mentalist, ala Kreskin, visited on me by the giant space hoover called, `Ship' I divine that you have been watching tonight's, Parkinson!

Trouble is, he's already done a very passable Oscar Wilde and a good, stodgy Andre Breton. Good choice, but too well known as Stephen Fry.:)

Matt Lucas..."look into my eyes"
