Wired For Weird (Strange Websites)

FT used to run a page where it recommended the weirdest websites, so I thought it might be useful to have a central resource to post some recommendations to.
Here is some rubbish I turned up:

isweb21.infoseek.co.jp/animal/sokaisha/010607/010607.htm

http://www.emotioneric.com/

robotfrank.com/

and my current fave, http://www.pornolize.com
Simply type in the url of any website, and it will be instantly pornolized. Most amusing, though not for the sensitive.
***The last one uses fruity language and obscenities, so if you're at all sensitive to that, don't look at it. Personally, I find it a refreshing way to get the day's news.***

i got into trouble a few months ago for post an already pornolized version of FT, you have to be carefull on here man.

It's a nicely enough written site, but what makes it stand out for you? There are plenty of activist sites out there on the web (like Mother Jones , Michael Moore's old stomping ground, and Third World Traveler, very big site). I can't quite see what makes this one different, and I read activist/political/green sites a lot.

I've never been to those other sites. I was just curious if you guys knew about it and
thought some might be interested. The guys who run it are from a band I enjoy.:)
Also I wanted to see if anybody had any thoughts or opinions.

Site of the Month : the Memory Hole

Found an excellent site by way of memepool, called the Memory Hole, which as it says is'exists to preserve and spread material that is in danger of being lost, is hard to find, or is not widely known. This includes:

• Government files
• Corporate memos
• Court documents (incl. lawsuits and transcripts)
• Police reports and eyewitness statements
• Congressional testimony
• Reports (governmental and non-governmental)
• Maps, patents, Web pages
• Photographs, video, and sound recordings
• News articles
• Books (and portions of books)

The emphasis is on material that exposes things that we're not supposed to know (or that we're supposed to forget).'
thememoryhole.org/
Link now leads to a 'lifestyle blog' that bears no resemblance to the description above.

Just browsing the front page they have articles on everything from how Fox censored the bloke who does Homer Simpson for trying to record an introduction for a counter-culture album to how the Soviets had an atom bomb on the third floor of their embassy in D.C.
Top site - five stars from me. Chatsubo says check it out (apologies to Joe Bob Briggs)

I've heard about that, but the way I understand it that it stopped because he swears (hearing homer simpson say penis is really strange :D) in it, and Fox didn't like it

However, I could be wrong though, and it's a top site :)

ps. I'll have a root around for it and get it hosted :)

Russian Nuke in Washington

I can't believe I missed this thread!

Did the Soviets hide a nuke in Washington 40 years ago? According to JFK they did:

The 'Homer doing the introduction' thing was in the Guardian recently. Thank you for posting the link to 'Homer's' introduction, which I have sent on to my Simpson-mad offspring.

That's what the 'net is about- freedom of information.
(It's also why I never post photos of myself on here. They can be so easily misappropriated and turned into goat-porn. Allegedly.)

Thanks Faggus and Sakina, both these links are really interesting.
Thanks guys!

Web resources

I thought it might be good to have stickied a thread for weblinks that members might find useful for research. Mods?

I'll begin with http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm. This site has hundreds of books freely available to read online, on world religions and mythologies, as well as other interesting things. All the books have lapsed copyright which is why they can be posted. So take a look. You're bound to find something of interest.

ill look at it later mana

and thanks

Eye on the World---The Violent Planet Page Your one-stop shop for links to pages dealing with local (and global) cataclysms :cool: .

It takes a little while to load, but it has both the very straightlaced (Red Cross) to the out there (Noah's Ark). Nicely grouped into General, Earth Changes, Earthquakes, Fires, Volcanoes, Weather Related.

Have Fun! :D

SourceryForge

Looks interesting it is a Wiki dedicated to magical things, etc. (and a nice play on the name SourceForge too - which is an open source code project site).

Great idea for a thread, but might I humbly suggest that a short explanation, or some keywords accompany each link?

If this thread grows to a reasonable size, one will need to perform a search to find ones preferred topic, that can't be done if there's no text to search on, and it'll be a tedious job clicking on every link to see if it takes you to the place you want to be.

For all you hard up students, struggling to buy both books and alcohol. The Gutenberg Project has most of the classics and a fair few obscure works, free for download. You can search by either Title or Author
