Woking's Alien Invasion

Hi TheMany. Enjoyed your blog post. I read War of the Worlds for the first time last year without knowing much about it. To find out it was set in the Woking area was at first surprising and then later quite refreshing. It's a book that blew me away some what and I also have thought about making a trip to the sand pits just to see what Wells had in mind when writing the opening chapters. The pics were of genuine interest to me, good work!

As a science fiction fan I have managed to walk past the tripod in woking a number of times and never really acknowledged it, and it was only a trip to the common that made me make a link. I am going to re-read the book, now that I have a feel for the locations that inspired Wells.
