World Records (Miscellaneous)

Doh..... I walked into that one didn't I?

I meant did they have to unwrap them and then eat them or were they pre unwrapped?
Unwrapping is included in the time. When the clock starts you have to unwrap the first one and you can then unwrap the others as you are eating.

Forever blowing bubbles.

A US researcher has broken the world record for the longest time spent living underwater without depressurisation.

Joseph Dituri has spent more than 74 days at the bottom of a 30ft-deep lagoon in Key Largo, Florida. And he does not have plans to stop yet. On Sunday, he said he would stay in Jules' Undersea Lodge for at least 100 days.

"The curiosity for discovery has led me here," he said. "My goal from day one has been to inspire generations to come, interview scientists who study life undersea and learn how the human body functions in extreme environments," he added.

The previous world record for most days spent living underwater at ambient pressure - 73 - was established by two professors in 2014 in the same Key Largo lodge.

Unlike a submarine, the lodge does not use technology to adjust for the increased underwater pressure.

All great fun, but what is he “discovering”? He’s going to stay in a hotel for 100 days, just underwater.

Fastest trip through the New York City subway system.

------------------------------
New York City’s subway has 472 stations laid out across 665 miles of track. For decades, transit enthusiasts have jockeyed to set the record for the fastest time to travel through the whole system.

Last month, Kate Jones, a New Yorker now living in Switzerland, set a new standard. She completed the journey in 22 hours, 14 minutes and 10 seconds. Her time was certified last week by Guinness World Records.

Sidmouth's 'tin can telephone' record officially confirmed.

It’s official - a ‘tin can telephone’ call made during last year’s Sidmouth Science Festival has set a new world record.
The Guinness Book of World Records has certified that it was the longest-distance call ever made using this kind of device – which consisted of two yoghurt pots and 374 metres of wire.
(...) the record-breaking call was made from the lookout point at Connaught Gardens to Bedford Steps on the Esplanade on October 8th, 2022.

Wonder if the quality dipped as time went on?

The efforts by a Nigerian chef to break the record for cooking non-stop have been officially recognised by Guinness World Records (GWR).

Hilda Baci became a national sensation after cooking for four days last month. She cooked for 100 hours - and was allowed a five-minute break each hour or the equivalent over several hours.

However GWR has logged her record at 93 hours 11 minutes, docking her seven hours for taking a longer break than allowed on one occasion.

She still beat the previous record by more than five hours set in Rewa, in central India in 2019 by Indian chef Lata Tondon.

Chef Baci, 27, used more than 100 different dishes from when she turned on her cooker at 15:00 GMT on Thursday 11 May. She stopped cooking on the following Monday.

No GWR officials were at the event in the upmarket area of Lekki in Lagos, but they later reviewed the footage that had been recorded from CCTV cameras.

In her record-breaking effort Baci cooked mostly Nigerian meals, such as jollof rice, as well as different types of rice and pasta, and also made akara - a popular street food made from deep-fried mashed beans. The food was handed out to invited guests.

World Record Kidney Stone

The world’s largest kidney stone has been removed from a patient in Sri Lanka – and it’s about the size of a grapefuit, as long as a banana and as heavy as four hamsters. [!]
At 13.372 centimeters (5.26 inches) long and weighing 801 grams (1.76 lbs) the kidney stone broke two world records when it was removed by Sri Lankan Army doctors on June 1.

Previously the records were 13 centimeters for length, set in India in 2004, and 620 grams for weight, set in Pakistan in 2008, according to Guinness World Records.

Guinness World Records has confirmed that both records have been broken by the Sri Lankan stone, removed at the Colombo Army Hospital.

Hello Dolly!

Preparations are well under way ahead of Listowel’s Dolly Day event, as the Kerry town prepares to set the world record for the largest gathering of people “wearing a full head to-toe Dolly Parton costume" next weekend.

With attendees expected from all corners of the country, the North Kerry town is set to be awash with cowboy boots and blonde wigs in celebration of the country music icon.

Man with world's largest kidney stone wins Guinness World Record

A man in Sri Lanka broke two world records this month when he had a massive kidney stone removed from his body, according to Guinness World Records.

A kidney stone ( Not the record-breaker. )

Sixty-two year old Canistus Coonghe, a retired soldier, had not only the largest kidney stone but also the heaviest. It was removed June 1 by a team of urologists.

The 1.76 pound kidney stone is the largest kidney stone ever recorded. Guinness stated on their website that the kidney stone is larger than Coonghe's actual kidney. Lengthwise, the stone reportedly measured 5.26 inches by 4.15 inches.

PWAH! .. I could only dream of that much agony Max. It still annoys me that they're called 'stones'. When was the last time anyone saw a stone that looks like these f***ers?. Look at them! ... they're shards! .. like Superman's 'Fortrice Of Solitude' ffs! .. stones are instead round small things, pebbles that people find in their gardens .. I pissed one out then cut a piece of paper with it afterwards once.

No Yolk.

An attempt to complete the world's longest egg and spoon race has begun in Cornwall.

Two teams are racing total of 300 miles (480km) - using real eggs and wooden spoons - around the north and south coasts of Cornwall to Land's End. They are raising money for Hospitality Action and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

St Ewe Eggs said it was inspired by the "ongoing cost-of-living crisis wreaking havoc on the farming, food production, hospitality and tourism sectors".

One team called the Great Eggsplorers set off on the north coast, starting at Welcombe Mouth beach.

Team Eggstreme began at Cremyll and is following the south coast.

Watch: Australians set new world record with Tina Turner dance

Thousands have come together to dance to the song ‘Nutbush City Limits’ in tribute to late singer Tina Turner, at Australia's most remote music festival, the Big Red Bash.

5,838 participants danced for five minutes to set a new record for the largest Nutbush dance in the world, as adjudicated by the Australian Book of Records.

The ‘Nutbush’ has been dubbed Australia's unofficial national dance and is often performed in Australian schools, weddings and gatherings.

https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-australia-66129928

I would have thought that rather than 'Nutbush' that our Australian cousins would have preferred to have done some sort of dance to "We don't need another hero", the song from the 1985 film 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome', which was set in, and filmed in, Australia.
Probably a bit less energetic though.

Nigerians are going records crazy.

By the time you finish reading this article, the chances are that another Nigerian has attempted to set some kind of world record in a frenzy that has gripped Africa's most populous country.

It is hard to keep up with all the recent attempts but one man sang for 200 hours, a man is crying non-stop to set a record as you read this, a woman said she was staying indoors for the longest time while another was seen attempting to fry the most snails - one of at least six culinary-themed attempts - in the "record-a-thon" craze.

You can pinpoint the exact moment when some of the country's 200 million people seemingly decided that every world record must fall - a medium-sized crowd braved rain and darkness for four days in May at a swanky venue in Lagos to watch Hilda Baci, a tired-looking chef, cook her way into the record books.

She cooked for a total of 100 hours, and although it was officially logged at 93 hours 11 minutes by the Guinness World Record (GWR), it was still enough to set a new record.
