You know how it feels like you've been working at the same job for-freaking-ever? Behold the Guinness-certified record holder for working at the same company for the longest time ...

100-year-old man celebrates 84 years working for the same company

... Walter Orthmann, who turned 100 on April 19, was verified Jan. 6 as having worked for textile company ReneauxView -- formerly known as Industrias Renaux S.A. -- for 84 years and 9 days.

Orthmann was awarded the Guinness World Record for longest career in the same company.

"Back in 1938, kids were expected to work to help support the family. As the oldest son of five, my mother took me to find a job at the age of 14," Orthmann told Guinness.

He started working for Industrias Renaux S.A. on Jan. 17, 1938, when he was 15 years old. His proficiency in German earned him a position as a shipping assistant, he said.

Orthmann was soon promoted to a position in sales, eventually rising to the position of sales manager.

The 100-year-old said he remains in good health and still drives himself to the office.

"I don't do much planning, nor care much about tomorrow. All I care about is that tomorrow will be another day in which I will wake up, get up, exercise and go to work; you need to get busy with the present, not the past or the future. Here and now is what counts. So, let's go to work," he said.

A new world record for number of T-shirts worn while running half-marathon (111) has been set. It wasn't easy to do the running with an additional 40 lbs. of clothing.
Idaho man runs half marathon while wearing 111 T-shirts

An Idaho man broke a Guinness World Record by running a half marathon while wearing 111 T-shirts.

David Rush, who has broken more than 200 Guinness World Records to promote STEM education, said it took about 25 minutes for his support team to dress him in the 111 shirts before Saturday's YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon ...

Rush completed the half marathon with a time of 2 hours, 47 minutes and 55 seconds, coming in under the 3-hour time limit set by Guinness World Records. ...

The previous record of 82 shirts was set by British runner David Smith in November 2021.

The Idaho man said cool temperatures helped him during his attempt, but he still had to struggle with issues from the more than 40 pounds of added weight from the shirts.

"My arms lost circulation and after a couple of hours my hands swelled to what felt like twice the size, my normally loose wedding ring was a constricted ring, and I couldn't even touch my thumb across my hand," Rush said.

Man breaks the world record for playing on the swing. 36 hours on the swing, beating the previous record by 2 hours.

Reading the rules about being allowed 5 minutes' break an hour — and being allowed to accumulate those minutes to take longer breaks — I find it hard to think of a less worthwhile record. As the French say, "everyone's son has gout."

Is it just me or all these records all crazy of late?
I stopped reading The Guinness Book Of Record's yearly book when they started including lame records like 'most texts sent in 60 seconds' type stuff .. actual large physical achievements seemed to have gone out of the window.

After much analysis, Guinness has certified a German surfer as having ridden the tallest wave any surfer has successfully surfed back in 2020.
German surfer rides world record 86-foot wave in Portugal

A German surfer broke the Guinness World Record for riding the largest wave -- an 86-foot monster off the coast of Portugal.

Guinness World Records announced Tuesday that Sebastian Steudtner, 36, broke the world record when he rode the 86-foot wave off the coast of Praia do Norte, Nazare, in October 2020. ...

The wave earned Steudtner the World Surf League Biggest Wave Award in 2021 -- the third time he has received the award.

Guinness World Records said measuring the wave was a long and difficult process that involved taking frames from a video of Steudtner's ride and using other objects in frame -- including the surfer's own body -- as points of reference to determine the height of the water.

Steudtner took the record from Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa, who set the record in 2017 at the same location that Steudtner would later visit for his own record-breaking.

Even if you demonstrate a record feat or outcome, Guinness may still deny you record certification if other requirements aren't satisfied.

"High winds rendered the cookies inedible", ummm.... what? They couldnt eat the cookies because it was windy?

The report didn't explain why the cookies were inedible. I suspect the winds blew them onto the ground, so they couldn't be distributed and eaten.
