Scottish woman breaks world sheep shearing record

A woman from St Boswells in the Borders has set the world record for shearing sheep. Una Cameron, 51, managed to de-fleece 517 sheep in nine hours, in a live-streamed attempt of the women's record. Una said she had been shearing since a young age and had been building all her working life towards the world record attempt.

Her team had said the exertion of wrestling sheep into position before removing the fleece meant she would lose several pounds in weight during the marathon shear.

The record was carefully judged on the conditions of the fleece and on how she treated each animal.

You should all be lambasted for this sort of humour.

Whistle and they'll come.

The Fleadh Cheoil festival in Wexford have broken the Guinness World Record for the most tin whistles played simultaneously, with 2,516 players coming from all over Ireland and abroad to play The Dawning of the Day and The boys of Wexford.

The record was made at 5pm on Thursday at Chadwicks Wexford Park. It was oversaw and approved by Craig Glenday, the Editor in Chief of Guinness World Records. The previous record was set at 1,015 players.

Catherine Roche, teacher for the ensemble of musicians, said that visitors from America, China, and Australia had registered to take part in the record.

The Wexford Fleadh Cheoil executive committee’s chairperson, Eddie Taaffe, said they are delighted to partner with the Castlebridge Inspire Group to break the world record.

“This event truly embodies what Fleadh Cheoil and Wexford are all about: people coming together, celebrating culture and making great things happen,” he said.

More than 500 runners wearing inflatable Tyrannosaurus rex costumes battled blustery conditions to take part in a fun run for a Manx learning disability charity.

Organised by Expedition Limitless, participants walked, jogged or ran the 1.5-mile (2.5km) course on Douglas Promenade on Saturday.

About £12,000 was raised for Manx Mencap, taking the total raised for the charity by the team who recently kayaked hundreds of miles on a Canadian river in aid of the organisation to more than £120,000.

Team leader Martyn Malone said the spectacle and turnout had been "absolutely incredible". The event was "an unofficial world record for the largest T. rex race in 63 million years".

That brought a smile to my face and I had tears in my eyes - seriously.

That's brilliant!

They look like flagolets to me.

I'm wondering how this became a thing?
I stopped buying The Guinness Book of Records when they dumbed it down to things like 'the most texts sent in 60 seconds' or 'the world's biggest Pokemon card' type non events. I suppose the box split involves physical effort instead but then so would 'the world record count for smacking yourself on the arse within 10 minutes'.

A Devon woman has become the world record holder for the longest hair donation after shaving her head.

Ruth Tripp, from South Molton, said she donated 67 inches (172cm) of hair to The Little Princess Trust - a charity which makes real-hair wigs for children with cancer and other conditions. She has also been awarded the title of Guinness World Record (GWR) holder for the largest single donation of hair by a woman.

Ms Tripp, 38, an accountant, told the BBC it was time to "chop off" her long hair when it reached the floor.

I hope he's not eaten by the NZ Yowie.

A man who ran the entire length of Africa has announced his next challenge – running the full length of New Zealand.

Russ Cook, nicknamed Hardest Geezer, completed his previous endurance challenge in April last year after 352 days. The 27-year-old, from Worthing, West Sussex, is to run the 1,864 mile (3,000km) Te Araroa Trail in March, which will see him take on 60 ultramarathons while navigating mountains, forests, coastlines and cities.

"After a big challenge, it took some time for the body to get back to reality. But I'm feeling fresh and ready for the next one," he said.

Mr Cook added: "Luckily a lovely British diet of sausage rolls and roast dinner really sorted me out. I put some timber back on and now we're ready to go again. It's going to be a spicy one."

Not a world record but a UK record

Largest catfish caught

Shaun Ing landed the 150lb (68kg) specimen at Chigborough Fisheries, near Maldon, Essex, at the end of September after an hour-and-a-half of "absolute madness" as he fought to reel it in.

He said the catfish - which measured more than 8ft (2.4m) long - was incredibly powerful, and so heavy that it bent the hook on the weighing scales.
"Even an hour into the fight, the fish was still taking line and we were all wondering, 'When is this going to end?'" he said.
Having his record catch officially verified by the British Record (Rod-Caught) Fish Committee, external was a "massive relief", he said.

The catch has taken the top spot from the previous best, a different catfish caught from the same lake last May, which weighed 143lb (64.4kg).
