Yeti In Spain

This may come as a shock and surprise to you all, but...

The mystery of a yeti sighting which left skiers fearful of venturing out onto the slopes has finally been solved.

And no, it wasn't a real yeti.

Shaky footage showed what looked like a strange ape-like creature with white fur clambering though the snow.

However, it has turned out to be nothing more than a slick marketing campaign by the company that manages the ski resort where the 'sighting' took place.

Ski resort owners Aramon had previously claimed to have sent managers out into the mountains of Formigal, northeastern Spain, in search of the beast.

In reality, they had been in on the ruse all along, helping to create a a media frenzy for sunglass brand Hawkers.

The truth was revealed in a new YouTube video by Hawkers, in which a shade-wearing 'Yeti' appears at a desk while the international headlines about his sighting flash up behind him.

A spokesman for Aramon said: "We wanted to draw attention and make a lot of noise this season so we knew that working with Hawkers would be the perfect bet."

Alex Moreno, chief executive of hawkers, said the campaign was 'great fun'.

Well, if that's not disappointing I don't know what is.

Obviously they came up with this counter-intel plan to cover up the real white yeti, or something. :p

Hmm, didn't this have viral marketing written all over it to begin with? Though sunglasses was not what I had expected.

He was wearing them in order to protect his identity from the paparazzi.

My bet was on the Remington Microscreen Razor.... 'shaves as close as a blade, or your money back'.

"I thought for a moment you were the Spanish yeti, but from those stylish shades I can see you're just an ordinary tourist on a skiing holiday. Sorry to bother you!"

We KNOW what a video hoax looks like
If only that statement was universally true...

The representation of the patently-false reassures us all that we have an absolute baseline for depictions of reality.

Like some kind of media-dependant addict, we collectively tend to believe that we're in control, that we know the boundaries, we can always discriminate between packaged falsity and genuine fact.

shaved monkeys being a common hoax.... 'shaves as close as a blade, or your shaved monkey back' :p

I'll admit, I always have to think about it. But then I still run through bad eggs are useless in my head to spell 'beautiful'.

I run through Elephants Are Ugly for the same thing ...
