The atlas, or emperor moth, is native to south-east Asia and is rarely seen in the UK.
It has one of the largest wingspans at around 10 inches (25 centimetres).
Looking back on this , I've only just realised that the date of this post was the birthday of a great great friend who , tragically, died way too young . And excuse the pun , but , he liked a drop if you know what mean.... Can't believe I didn't realise this when I posted that dayAnd just to go COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC for a second.... I have been indulging in the EXCELLENT 20 page things that truly scare you thread and just today I experienced that weird being distinctly dripped on sensation indoors but no leak or drip....
And on top of that , looking at my avatar of my beloved , much missed Sam , ashamed to admit I've only just remembered that today was the day he died , three years ago , a month shy of 20... Miss you buddy and still love ya xxLooking back on this , I've only just realised that the date of this post was the birthday of a great great friend who , tragically, died way too young . If I happen to spot some goodn's I'll certainly be posting 'em on 'ere.I love a good moth & butterfly spotting session - if anyone (else apart from me) is UK-based and so inclined you can post moth sightings to National Moth Recording Scheme via https://mothrecording.org/
Sometimes they get confused with the 'Bee' version - very easy to mistake it with the Hummingbird Moth too! Had a few of them in my garden last year along with a number of Hummingbird Hawk Moths.I have only seen those a couple of times and was fascinated by them!
Oh, I‘ve never seen those at all!Sometimes they get confused with the Bee version
'THE BEE FLY:'Oh, I‘ve never seen those at all!
Yes, this is a nice fluffy mimic of the master mimic - the Hummingbird Hawk Moth.
Fascinating aren't they!I actually saw a Humming Bird moth in a customers garden today - the first one I've ever seen. I didn't know they existed until I saw post 189 above.
Definitely. I don't know what the plant was but it had loads and loads of small bell shaped flowers and it visited every single flower really quickly.Fascinating aren't they!
I asked 'AI' the question. . . is there any relationship between Hummingbird Hawk Moths and Bee Moths: And this is the reply ~Fascinating aren't they!
Where I live there is the general tendency to treat all wildlife with the greatest of respect, thank goodness - be it large or small.Awww thats cute and its nice of you to do that, some would tread on them
