Also, as a bit of a peek, Alan talks a bit to Andrew Philip Smith about why he thinks that magic should be judiciously used. The specific question asked is: Alan has satirized practical results magic in Fossil Angels and has said that he will include a section in the Moon and Serpent book explaining why you shouldn’t do it. What is his objection to practical results magic. Isn’t it at the root of magic and the focus of living traditions like the African diaspora religions such as Voodoo or Quimbanda? :

I think the first "hypothetical" publishing date I saw for this was 2013 and that was 2010ish.

Hopefully it'll get done this time around!

Not yet. The biggest prose piece I've read by Alan Moore thus far is his thought piece in London: City of Disappearances about Steve Moore (no relation).

There's a two hour audio version with an ambient backing.

Here's the first chapter:

It's worth it for his pronunciation of "insouciantly" alone.

I actually bought the giant CD/LP combo that is from at the time of release! Good stuff!

Legendary comic book writer Alan Moore will talk to comedian Stewart Lee about his first ever short story collection, Illuminations.

Described by fellow fantasy writer Neil Gaiman as “both mind-expanding and cosmic while utterly rooted in our urban reality,” Illuminations is an epic tour-de-force that combines madness with urbane magic. Through nine stories, Moore takes us into the folds of his wondrous and strange universe, introducing us to a cast of memorable characters, from the four horsemen of the apocalypse and paranormal study groups, to people plagued with nostalgia.
Widely regarded as one of the best comic book writers in the English language, Moore’s works include The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell and V for Vendetta. He has published two novels, Voice of the Fire and Jerusalem, and in 2024 he will launch Long London, a fantasy quintet that will move from the “shell-shocked and unravelled” capital of 1949 to a version “just beyond our knowledge”.

From New York Times bestselling author Alan Moore — one of the most influential writers in the history of comics — "a wonderful collection, brilliant and often moving" (Neil Gaiman) which takes us to the fantastical underside of reality.

In his first-ever short story collection, which spans forty years of work, Alan Moore presents a series of wildly different and equally unforgettable characters who discover – and in some cases even make and unmake – the various uncharted parts of existence.

In A Hypothetical Lizard, two concubines in a brothel of fantastical specialists fall in love with tragic ramifications. In Not Even Legend, a paranormal study group is infiltrated by one of the otherworldly beings they seek to investigate. In Illuminations, a nostalgic older man decides to visit a seaside resort from his youth and finds the past all too close at hand. And in the monumental novella What We Can Know About Thunderman, which charts the surreal and Kafkaesque history of the comics industry's major players over the last seventy-five years, Moore reveals the dark, beating heart of the superhero business.

From ghosts and otherworldly creatures to theoretical Boltzmann brains fashioning the universe at the big bang, Illuminations is exactly that – a series of bright, startling tales from a contemporary legend that reveal the full power of imagination and magic.
