This thread reminds me of a tantalisingly short article in FT a couple of years ago or so about a rock formation in Australia that the author and his friend had been to visit.
It had various stories of this kind attached to it, criminals on the run taking refuge and disappearing, along with the cops that were trailing them and subsequetly the search party that went to look for the criminals and cops. And later, various people taking shelter in bad weather, unsuspecting shepherds and other folk that had entered the rock formation and had never come out
The article had really left me wanting to know more about the place and it's legends, though I can't remember the name of the author, the name of the rock formation, or the name of the area in Australia..
Can anyone else help ?
