Egyptian Jurists to Sue 'The Jews' for Compensation for 'Trillions' of Tons of Gold Allegedly Stolen During Exodus from Egypt

The August 9, 2003 edition of the Egyptian weekly Al-Ahram Al-Arabi featured an interview with Dr. Nabil Hilmi, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Al-Zaqaziq who, together with a group of Egyptian expatriates in Switzerland, is preparing an enormous lawsuit against "all the Jews of the world."

im sorry but is this a joke?

Very Wise. Of course, they'll be taking the British Museum to court to reclaim Egyptian treasures first to help them cover the legal costs. They could probably help-out and make bob or two by suing the French for all that damage Napoleon did to the Sphinx. Likewise, ALL THE JEWS OF THE WORLD will obviously have to formally reclaim that stolen Nazi gold from the evil gnomes in Zurich in case they have to pay reparations. Problem is that, like all European stock, the Swiss are collectively guilty for the sin of slavery and if that gets into a courtroom first who knows if they'll be enough left in the chest for the Jews

Its very silly living in the past, especially a past that may not have actually happened!

It reads a bit like a spoof that someone has actually believed.

shall we sue the roman empire then? :D

I hope they call all jews in the world to the witness box to give evidence :D

All the gold ever mined wouldn't weigh 'trillions' of tonnes...

Now come on, your just being silly now aren't you? :hmph:

IJ: These are scriptural tonnes, gold weighed more then, just as people lived longer, begatting was only between man and wife, and the lion lay down with the lamb:D

If we're being picky the current majority population of Egypt, the Arabs, aren't the Egyptians who were around at the time of Exodus: the Arabs invaded around 641 CE. The large minority the Copts, are the descendents of the Pharonic period population of Eygpt.

The difference between the English and the Welsh, i.e. the English were later invaders who pushed the earlier inhabitants to the corners of the country, is a pretty close parrallel to the Copts/Arabs situation.

So if the lawyers are of Arab descent, they don't have a case, and probably the Copts could sure them for compensation (along with suing the Persians, Greeks and Romans)

:hmph:

I heard a few years ago that that was a modern-day fiction. True? (That Napolean lobbed artilery at The Sphinxes nose because its features were too "African" ).

EXODUS Chapter 12

35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.
36 The LORD had made the Egyptians favourably disposed towards the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.
37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children.
38 Many other people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.

If "they gave them what they asked for", it can't have been stolen, surely? (Although the word 'plundered' does hint it was not all entirely above board!) Yes, the lawyers will have fun with this.

But what would make this truly interesting (rather than the joke I assume it is) would be if someone could dig up an Egyptian account of the Exodus - this would be a 'holy grail' of dating evidence, allowing different histories to be synchronised, and settling some of the disputes between various experts about how old stuff is, and who lived when, exactly.

(Awkwardly, none of these ancient peoples recorded their dates using the Gregorian calendar! :D )

Couldn't the Jews launch a counter claim for all that time in slavery and such like? ;)

Methinks someone is just being very silly.

isn't that how it always starts?

All together now:

Religious intolerence: What is it good for... *

but then it may be a joke.

The site's there as a translator to highlight antisemitism in the Arab world. Seems like there's some meaty stuff to be going on with.

It's foolish, yes. Is it any more foolish than people seeking reparations for stuff that was stolen from their ancestors fifty or a hundred years ago?

What, you mean people like Native Americans?

Anyone at all, basically. There's been this increasingly surreal tendency over the past couple decades for groups to demand reparations for things that happened long before any member of the group was born. This seems merely an extension of that.
