Has anyone seen anything in the skys over Birmingham UK?

I have sat for many nights in a dark area on the outskirts of the city (so there is not a vast amount off light polution) searching the skies (i was bought a telescope for xmas :)

and i have seen nothing i couldnt explain..

I origionally come from cumbria and the skies were full of mysterious objects (according to the thousands of witnesses each year) There were many sitings of project aurora over morecambe bay..

but ive heard of nothing over birmingham

any sightings?

Hi there,
Im originally from Cannock (Staffs), if you want to see strange lights flying about go up to cannock chase, especially over the milford part.
I can honestly say that every time I have been in the chase late at night I have seen something unidetifiable...be it UFO's,Orbs, or spirits. Be prepared to be scared though as I went looking for these things and I was petrified when I saw it first hand...its an overwheling experience.
:p

I've spent many years in and around Birmingham, sometimes on my back looking up, and never saw anything remotely interesting. I've also spent many happy hours on the Chase and in the Hednesford Hills and I never saw anything interesting there either. Perhaps I'm just not tuned in to interesting stuff. I do remember a number of reports on one of the Birmingham local wireless stations one night of a silvery globe with something suspended from it. Probably BRMB, or Beacon Radio around 93-94.

Where is good in the UK to see 'UFOs'? I was thinking fo organising for me and my mates a camping trip to such an area (more of a holiday than a serious research trip tho' :))

Where is good in the UK to see 'UFOs'? - I'd suggest the Pennines esp Longendale (Glossop) & Calder Valley (Hebden Bridge) Even if you don't see anything untoward its a beautiful area, with much to see & do.

Longendale in particular has a reputation for numerous sightings of anomalous lights - as seen on Look North!

As for why you don't see UFO's in Birmingham - lets face it people from the UK avoid going there if they can possiby avoid it!!

Tha wants UFO's lad, tha's best to come by t'goddess's own county.!!

I'm also from Birmingham and although i have seen strange things in the night sky, but nothing that could not be explained. I'll be interested to hear from other people in Birmingham who have seen UFO's or know of any credible reported sightings in the area.

I don`t know about ufo hotspots in Ireland but I know of one in the uk. Bonnybridge, Scotland and the area around it has has some interesting activaty. I know of a webcam that has been put there by japanese scientists. I have the site address somewhere but I`m not sure where I put it. Will post I when I find it.

I can`t for the life of me find the mag that had the website address for the webcam on it (is someone trying to tell me something).

Anyway I have an idea but it will take a few people to make it work. Why don`t we watch the skies every night (for lets just say a weekend). Lets see if one of us out here can spot something that we can`t classify.

If you are interested let me know.

p.s. Is there anything a person can do to attract ufo`s?

Didn't Warminster used to be one of the hotspots? Do people still see those big cigar-shaped thingies which the 'experts' liked to call the mother ship, or are these passe nowadays and the aliens have now got the extra-terrestrial version of the people carrier?

Where have all the ufo watcher dudes gone?

Not only do the skies seem emptier, there seems to be less people with their eye's to the skies.

I've never actually seen a 'ufo' but last night there was this wierd blue light coming through my curtains and this really wierd buzzing sound...
There were also a few helicopters flying really low over our house (we dont live anywhere near a RAF base)
Anyone have any ideas on that one?

Up until recently Nick Redfern had been appearing on the Jeff Rense show on a monthly basis along with Jon Downes.

With every appearence, it seemed, he had something to say about various fortean things going on at Cannock Chase. So I guess it's worth persevering with there.

Personally speaking, it might be worth getting a dog. Why? Well, over the period of 10 years that I had mine, I had seen a grand total of three weird things while walking him:

Two UFOs, (seemingly the same one) and an Alien Big Cat, (a beige puma). That's probably not a very good strike rate though.

Fishy this is weird, a few years ago i had 2 blue lights shining through my curtains. I had been asleep but woke up for some reason and when I turned round onto my side (couldn`t see the window before then) I saw them. I didn't hear any other noises though. Helicopters and planes (usually the police spotter ones) fly around the sky where I live regulary but not at the time it happened (I would of heard them). I'm not sure how long the night where there for as a turned into a little chicken, I turned over again so I couldn't see the window and put the covers over my head. At the time I was freaked a bit by it.

P.S. Has anyone ever seen those black milatary copters? The ones that usually are seen chasing ufo's.

I concur that Yorkshire is a top spot for sky stuff (as I've just babbled about elsewhere).
My entire family once watched a large orange mass of light move round in circles over the moors; I seem to recall that a civilian pilot buzzed the thing and couldn't work out what it was. No lasers, searchlights or balloons were in evidence, no other aircraft...a really good sighting.

And where was your's truly at the time? In the bleedin' pub, that's where. Missed the whole rotten thing. Incidentally, just last month a huge 'formation' of little shining lights appeared over Hathersage way, so things are still going strong...

UFO spotting spots..!

From experience the best two places I know of are the Brecon Beacons and Oban, Argyllshire. Possibly due to a lack of light pollution but the skies come closer when you're up a dark mountain!

Keep Looking

Don't lose heart

I saw a rather unusual brown/black spherical object hanging in the sky above brixton (couple of weeks ago in broad daylight). Brixton has no shortage of low-flying commercial aircraft, so it was fairly easy to discount a plane. Ballon? Possibly. I watched it for about 5 mins (as i walked up effra road) then went into the flat to borrow my flatmate's camera. of course, by the time i hauled my reluctant housmates outside, it was gone. The first "flying object" that i have not been able to "identify" (despite a lifetime of looking). You just have to "watch the skies". What it was? I have no opinion...

P.S. And ALWAYS carry a camera, if i had, i would not have had to put up with a weeks worth of jibes

I used to live in the highfields area as a student and I had a view over cannock area.....didn't see anything but I wasn't really looking for most of the 2 years I was there 'til someone on a local radio show mentioned that the area was a hotspot.

Bonsall area in derbyshire had a few sightiongs recently btw

Theres a good website with a list of uk sighting reports

No CE3K

I used to love all the fuss there was round about the time of the 'close Encounters' movie (a favourite film, there by the way) and really enjoyed all those Alan Hynek books and the like. I suppose what i miss more is my totla lack of cynicism regarding such things, and that the universe was more interesting than it seemed.
The only place i've seen anything strange in the sky was up in scotland, in Hawick. The sky there is very clear at night and we saw innumerable tiny lights moving around miles away, it seemed, right above our heads, all in different directions and not very fast. It was pretty breathtaking, although they were probably just satellites or something, sadly.
Actually i've been reading up on the mothman on this site and that story seems pretty convincing, and scary, though i don't know if it has much to do with ufo's.

The new lotto is advertising with two blimps - they came over here the other day and I got some pics .
I haven't seen anything myself round here but not too long ago there was a report in the local paper of a family who saw a strange black ufo at nearly ground level with spinning lights on it and around the same time people reported seeing odd flashing red and white lights around a local village ( was written off as rabbit lampers ! ) . My new step father gardens for loads of posh old ladies and they are always seeing things and never reporting them ( don't want to make a fuss ) . One was out late in her garden and looked up at the sky to see a perfect triangle of stars overhead - then the stars moved off in perfect formation - they were lights on the corners of a black triangle! There was no sound . My mother saw a similar black triangle some years ago , without lights , skimming in and out of the moonlit clouds , again with no sound . Haven't heared about anything in the last couple of years though . Aren't there supposed to be more sightings when there is political tension and wars ? Maybe we should be expecting a whole load more UFOs soon .

Were there any reports of UFO sightings over Gloucestershire in the late 1980s/early 90s? I was nearing my teens and lived near the River Severn. I remember one particular Summer me and I my friends used to watch formations of lights moving incredibly quickly up and down the river, but quite high up. It went on for a whole week and I distinctly remember we were going to write in to the popular children's newspaper of the time called "Scoop". Couldn't be arsed in the end though...

No black helicopters unfortunately but there was a light RAF propeller plane flying up and down the river one morning during that time.

Oh, sorry, that was probably my avatar _ I have no control over it when I'm not logged on! :)

But seriously though -

We had an airship operating around here about 6 years ago. Many people saw it (including yours truly), but it received very little media coverage. What there was suggested that it was a military 'evaluation exercise', probably operating out of RNAS Culdrose.
