Fortean Rotterdam - visions and fantasies

Leiber was a great writer-he was a correspondent of HP Lovecraft and pretty much invented the sword-and-sorcery genre. At least, he perfected it, and nobody has ever equaled his work. Many have tried.

For any who care, Leiber worked in the aircraft industry for many years, and did a bit of acting-his father was a well known player in film and on the stage.

His work is well worth seeking and reading, it has a certain magic.

An interesting solar alignment (at least ... that's what I think).
It's always surprising how few people notice these little surprises :?

Do you have similar alignments in your neighborhood?
In 2011 I posted an article about Manhattanhenge (NY, if you didn't guess! Not that I've ever been there.)
http://www.forteantimes.com/forum/viewt ... ?p=1117261

Under the article, I added this:

"At my previous flat I had a Chapelhenge: my living room window looked onto the side of a methodist chapel with five windows either side. By chance these windows provided three sightlines to the setting sun, at different times of the year!"

(I have photos somewhere, but the digital copies got lost, I think.)

The same flat never gave a view of the morning sun, except at midsummer, when (if I was up early enough) I could stick my head out of the bedroom window, look to my right, and catch the Solstice sun rising above the horizon - which was nice!
:D

Numbered cobblestones ... are not unexplainable. The numbers probably signify sizes, batch numbers and possibly artisans involved in their making. But they're irritatingly rare and - with their beautiful handwriting - they remind me of ages long past. Googling does not help at all ... what could 2WD and 7WD mean? Or 24x34 ... not centimeters in any case ...

Do you have these in your neighborhood?

By accident I discovered some sightlines. This not a big discovery, but it adds to my understanding of the city.
Do you have similar experiences?

Not Rotterdam or indeed urban but from my back window I have a pretty damn fine view of the horizon, facing West, North, West so I get to see some very impressive sunsets year round.

There is a transmitter mast just over the horizon and recently I looked on Google Earth to find it was eleven miles away and that the wind turbines which to my view were standing next to it, were in fact seven miles away. That's 17.7 and 11.3 km respectively.
If I go out my front door and cross the road I can see Durham Cathedral 1.6 miles or 2.6 km away. But it disappears from view as you get closer until you are to about half a mile from it.
