im reading "Midnight in the garden of good and evil" and in it he points out that a "false step" was often used in counrty houses of the last century and a sort of anti burgular alarm. A "false step" is a step one inch highter than the others (usualy the first one) which catches the unwary out and trips them up.... anyone know anything about its use?...the book is about Savannah in Georgia but it must have been used in Uk and could be the reason i have gon base over apex in a few stately homes when a child...
