Ricin

Another case involving Ricin, enough for a thousand doses.

German police are searching flats in a Cologne tower block where a Tunisian man is suspected of having kept highly toxic ricin.

The 29-year-old man, named in German media only as Sief Allah H, is being questioned by police.

Police stormed his flat on Tuesday and found a chemical which turned out to be ricin. He is suspected of planning a biological terror attack.

Ricin is a poison found naturally in castor beans.

German security sources quoted by RP news, which is based in the Cologne region, said the quantity of ricin found was enough for up to 1,000 toxic doses.

Police have sealed off the apartment block in Cologne-Chorweiler district. They are searching two flats rented by the suspect, as well as six other empty flats and some public areas in the building.

The authorities say there is no immediate danger to the other residents.

The Ricin letters are back.

An envelope addressed to Donald Trump has been found to contain a substance suspected to be the highly toxic substance, ricin.

A Secret Service spokesman told CNN “the Secret Service can confirm receipt of a suspicious envelope addressed to the President on 1 Oct, 2018.”

“The envelope was not received at the White House, nor did it ever enter the White House,” the spokesman continued.

Federal authorities confirmed that two similar packages, also suspected to contain the lethal poison, were mailed to two senior Pentagon officials; defence secretary Jim Mattis and Admiral John Richardson, the chief of US naval operations.

The Pentagon put all of its mail under quarantine yesterday after the packages suspected of containing the poison were identified, The New York Times reports.

Yesterday it was announced the letters contained castor seeds (from which ricin can be made) rather than ricin.

Pentagon quarantine 'sparked by castor seeds' not ricin poison
Pentagon officials wear protective suits as they inspect the quarantined mailroom
The suspicious substance that triggered a quarantine after arriving in the post at the US Defense Department was castor seeds, a Pentagon official has said.

Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White made the announcement one day after letters were also sent to the White House and a Republican senator's office in Texas.

Earlier it had been reported that the substance in the letters had tested positive for the deadly poison ricin. ...

Conspiracy to use ricin in terrorist attacks alleged.

A 32-year-old Iranian man has been arrested in Germany for allegedly plotting an "Islamist-motivated" attack.

The man had been plotting to use cyanide and ricin to commit a "serious act of violence", "North Rhine-Westphalia police said in a statement.
They raided the man's Castrop-Rauxel residence, in the Ruhr region, but prosecutors said no poison was found. The suspect's brother was also arrested and the pair remain in custody.

Germany's Deutsche-Presse Agence (dpa) reported numerous emergency workers in protective suits attending the scene. The investigation is continuing and it was initially unclear how far the attack plans had progressed.

Another case involving Trump.

A Canadian woman has pleaded guilty to sending a threatening letter containing the poison ricin to then-US president Donald Trump at the White House.

The letter from Pascale Ferrier directing Mr Trump to “give up and remove your application for this election” was intercepted at a mail sorting facility in September 2020, before it could reach the White House. The 55-year-old Quebec woman also pleaded guilty to sending similar threatening letters to Texas law enforcement officials. She is expected to be sentenced to 262 months in prison, just short of 22 years, under the terms of a plea deal with prosecutors. ...

She was arrested trying to enter a border crossing in Buffalo, New York, carrying a gun, a knife and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, authorities said.

The investigation also turned up eight letters to Texas officials affiliated with facilities where Ferrier had been jailed in 2019. ...
