During my holidays in Germany I was surprised to stumble on the house of Dr. Faustus in the Black Forest village of Staufen. Being from Czech origins I was sure that Dr. Faustus had lived in Prague, and there was taken by the devil.
This is the house in Staufen:

With these signs stating the legend:

In 1539 - after a period of 24 years in which he had served him - the devil broke the neck of Dr. Faustus and took his soul in the Gausthaus zum Löwen in Staufen.
It is confimed from written sources (Zimmern'sche Chronik zu Donaueschingen) that Dr. Faustus - an alchemist and necromancer - was hired by the Freiherr Anton von Staufen in 1539.
And on the castle there is another confirmation of the legend, with it's historical roots:

But I have a book of Prague legends, and there it is clearly stated that Dr. faustus lived in Prague, they even have a "Faust House" there. It has a hole in the ceiling through which Faust was dragged by the devil:

Are there any Faust's houses in England?
