Anyone see this?
It was quite good, presenting some of the historical information that is known and some that can be deduced from contemporary documents and what is known of third temple Jewish tradition.
The basic story was of the hisorical info regarding the person of Jesus but also the aftermath of his death and the rivalry between James the Just and Paul. James being the older brother of Jesus and Paul being a Hellenistic Turk who claimed Roman citizenship, who never knew Jesus but claimed that his vision of the "heavenly Jesus" was more authoritive than the "earthly Jesus" that James grew up with, was educated with and witnessed preaching.
It was not very balanced and basically was being hard on the Pauline mission for misinterpreting what was basically a Jewish only movement. It indicates the fact that Paul put a more Hellenistic interpretation on the ministry of Jesus and sought to spread the message to Gentiles, a move which James was vehemently oppesed to.
While it is most likely true, the tone of the docu seemed to be more condascending towards the Pauline church, which of course is now the Catholic church.
Anyone any opinions?
