Full Shambles Here

A stark warning that Britain is facing a possible chemical or nuclear terrorist attack was released but then withdrawn by the Home Office.
The first warning on Thursday said the "fanatical extremists" of al-Qaeda could strike Britain with traditional terror tactics or new, "surprising" methods.

"Maybe they will try to develop a so-called dirty bomb, or some kind of poison gas; maybe they will try to use boats or trains rather than planes," it said.

However, an hour after the document was released it was withdrawn and replaced by a much more general warning.

If they use trains we're probably safe:hmph:

Nothing to do with upping the ante and general paranoia now that attention is refocusing on Iraq... ;)

Although there is no evidence of iraq being involved with Al Qaida of course...

"They may attempt to use more familiar terrorist methods, such as leaving parcel or vehicle bombs in public places, or hijacking passenger aircraft.

However, they may try something different, perhaps as surprising as the attacks on the World Trade Center, or the theatre siege in Moscow.

Maybe they will try to develop a so-called dirty bomb, or some kind of poison gas, maybe they will try to use boats or trains rather than planes. The bottom line is that we simply cannot be sure."

Yes, or maybe they will read this statement and think, "Our work is already done with Blunkett in power" :)

Panic stations !!

It's always the same !! as soon as there's something the government wants the country to unite behind, some common threat appears and we're all expected to rally behind each other and watch our backs. It came as no surprise really, as JerryB said, that now that Iraq is firmly in the sights, we're all expected to believe that we're going to be attacked in some horrific way. The only trouble with casting the warning away out of hand, is that the day something terrible happens, all we'll be able to say is, "well, they told us so !! "
